Recommend me some brake pads (vrs)

Featured Replies

I checked my brakes over and have found a ridge on a disk carving a groove into the pad. The garage didn't seem bothered but as my brakes feel iffy as is I think its time for a change. What do people recommend? I've read a lot about the ferodo 2500's but the legalities concern me (insurance company using it as a get out clause?) plus rather expensive. I currently have the original Jurid pads. Probably going to replace the discs with OEM jobs unless a reasonably priced alternative is out there.

Ta.

I would just stick with OEM stuff

Don't understand what you mean about the DS2500? Insurance?

I'm running them OE on my car (VXR brakes)...

I was under the impression the DS2500 were not ECE R-90 approved and so legal for road use?

You would have to inform your insurance if you were to use them certainly, and they are not E-Marked.

It's certainly an interesting line to tread, but they do stop well from what some people say on here.

I have the Ferodo DS2500s in my Octavia vRS and they are streets ahead in stopping power compared to the OE pads that IMHO fade badly on long heavy stops; the Ferodos just keep biting. I also used them on my Fabia and wife's FIAT Doblo to very good effect.

As to ECE R-90 compliance, cheezemonkhai is correct in saying that the are not E-marked, but having spoken direct to Ferodo UK at length in the past the DS2500 EXCEED the requirements of ECE R-90. its just that they haven't been tested.

If you want some pads with similar stopping power to the DS2500 and that are IIRC E-marked then look at EBC's Red Stuff Ceramic. Although anecdotally they do not have the reliability or longevity of the Ferodos, they are about half the price.

You choose. ;)

I don't disagree that the DS2500 will stop you and well.

As for the EBC redstuff ceramic V3, these are E marked and I've managed to put about 30k on the pads and they have not worn much at all. Certainly a lot less than OEM.

As for reliability, well I've had no issue with them including autobahn driving, rest of Europe driving, UK motorways and backroads, hot and cold weather and wet and dry. Can't compare them to the DS2500 as I've not run them, but they certainly are way ahead of the OEM.

They are at least as good as OEM on first application and when you've got temperature into them they are very strong stoppers :)

Disc wear is so far minimal too :)

I'll say that a lot of people on here hate redstuff, but IMHO it depends what you're doing with them.

Red are fine for fast road and occasional light track use

Yellow are fine for fast road and track use but dusty.

DS2500 are fine for road use and track use but cost about twice the price of the reds.

All you can do is decide what you are doing with them and make your own decisions.

Whatever you do, stay away from the EBC greenstuff as heavier cars such as the Octy seem to lunch them.

Agree with Cheezmonkhai

I have also gone with EBC reds and have found them to be better than OEM for regular road use.

i have the ferodo performance pads on the front not the 2500s they stop much betrter than oem are cheaper then 2500 and street legal and can take a real hammering
