Fitted a THB Bury to the Vroomster today

Featured Replies

I got a bit bored with the Kenwood Head unit, just a little to "flashy" for me so I went back to the standard Dance head unit and fitted a THB Bury hands free kit.

On the Bury, it is a fantastic peice of kit, and it's option of green for the display keys it in nicely with the rest of the car. The Bury does not need any "training" for voice recognition and for functionality even blows my old OEM Skoda BT kit out of the water (fitted to the Octy of course). I also decided to mount it on a bracket near the radio so it's nicely to hand and not sat erect on the dashboard like an excited pygmy's ***** :D

I mounted the Microphone in the interior light by removing it from it's casing and making up a small foam bracket to fit the standard recess (I have a Passat W8 interior light fitted) and the clarity is excellent and the voice recognition is truly superb.

Good Points

Voice recognition

Build quality of the removeable touch screen (Much better than any Parrot I have seen or used)

Reading out of text messages

Iphone 3g Compatibility

Bad Points

"Brain" / Control unit build quality (Not as good as a Parrot), all the budget went on the display and wiring :D

I have moved the position of the wire so it is now hidden (I had a spare facia adapter) but I may move it back again to this position as it's at risk of chaffing on the bracket.

Good stuff. I have a company sponsored Parrot 3200ls and it's...... annoyingly bad.

looks good, how much are they?

They come in just under £100 if you shop around mate, I actually have a spare one I may be flogging shortly as it was in the Mrs's old car and I took it out.

If anyone considers fitting one, there is a Vag specific accessory lead that retains the quadlock connector and cut's down on the amount of wiring you have to hide.

the VAG lead is an extra £29 but well worth it.

sounds good value too

Indeed. I have seen a few pass through the warehouse and for the cash you cannot go wrong.

Here's a couple of night pics, great little unit now I have used it for a couple of days. The Green of the display is almost identical to the dash, the camera has a hard time with the colour though :)

I like a bit of Wogan in the morning, he is the Clarkson of the radio :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I like the position you have installed the screen in, I'm thinking of putting one in the same place on my Mk2 Octavia.

What was the mount you used to fit it here? I'm looking at the dashmount bracked which is available.

Will the Bury screen fit neatly onto one of these brackets?

If so, I think, my decision on which phone kit to go for, and where to mount it, has been made.

It's a fabia 2 bracket, they are available for the Mk2 octy as well for a couple ££.

I got mine from here take-and-talk.co.uk you can get a dedicated VAG loom for it as well that means you don't have to use the mountain of spaghetti in the V loom that comes with the THB.

If you have maxidot though, I would urge you to consider the OEM bluetooth kit which is easy to install and an excellent piece of equipment at similar cost to the THB

I would love the OEM kit, and the new car does have maxidot aswell as MFD2, but from what I have found out, the OEM kit is around £300 for the parts, Fitting would probably not be a problem as I'd feel confident doing it myself, but once fitted, it needs to be activated with VAG.Com which I dont have, so I would still need someone to set it up.

The Bury kit can be bought for about £130, and about £20 for the mount. so atleast half the price of the OEM kit, and also has the advantage of being removable when the car is sold.

If anyone knows of a cheaper way to get the OEM kit, and knows of someone in the midlands who could help set it up then I'd be interested to hear.

I am in cuckoo land over the price of the oem kit, don't worry I am jetlagged.

for around £30 the boys I mentioned in the link will sell you a Bury VAG Harness and the correct bracket to mount the bury on

The Bury kit works well once the echo is sorted, still need to crack open the fuse box and sort a switched live for mine though, damn site cheaper than the OEM too thanks too Tony.

Right well I'v finally decided I'm going to go for the Bury cc9060 kit to go in my new Octavia, and I'm going to mount the screen on a dashmount besides the temparature controls.

My next question is what else do I need in addition to the Bury kit to install in, and make sure the radio mute and car speakers work with it.

I'v been told by Halfords that I need an adaptor lead to connect between the Bury unit, and the Head unit.

Is this necessary becasue I remember when I fitted a Nokia kit in my Fabia I was told the same, but by using the guide on Fabis-vrs.com I was able to buy the necessary parts and connections to connect straight up to the back of the head unit.

The parts I required are given below, and I still have from when I removed the Nokia unit from my Fabia

Can I not re-use these in the Octavia? or do something similar to connect the the back on the new head unit because Its a much cheaper option and also much neater as it avoids having to try and fit extra leads and connectors at the back of the stereo.

The Head unit in the Octavia is the MFD2.

6 pin Multi Connector (Blue) VAG Part Number 4A0 972 643B (Approximately £2.05 each)

Single Wires VAG Part Number 000 979 131 (Only sold in quantities of 5 approximately £5.25 for the 5 items)

Use the link I put in and speak to the THB importer.

There is an ISO converter that you can use in conjunction with the "Y" loom supplied with the THB, but you will struggle to hide the wires and refit the head unit.

There is a VAG fitting kit available on the link I posted, complete with the correct bracket for the Octy.
