Our cars are worth 50p

Featured Replies

I have been looking on Pistonheads and autotrader just to see all the ****s trying to say that their remap and CAI makes the vrs 240 BHP and relised that the VRS is worth about 50 pence even the WRC one's are sitting around 5k to 6k! the only one I saw with a price tag was one with a big turbo conversion and the worst wheels I ever saw that was up for 8k lulz.

if i knew they would drop like this i would of waited 2 years to get one they are ten a penny now!

True. That's why I'm keeping mine forever.

It's worth a little bit more here in NZ I think but not a lot - maybe $2

I know, kinda want to sell mine and get a Furby vRS but even with 37k on my 52 plate I've seen them go for less than 5! I'd have to get a Fabia with nearly 100k on it...

who cares what it's worth on the market!

it's an excellent car that does it's job very well, to me its worth loads. carries me all over europe with no complaints, and just try buying a new car with the same performance......

But a 52 plate is now 6 years old... bearing in mind the Octy vRS was only a £15k car new, to still be worth £5k is not bad going imho.

£5k retained value on a £15k car over 6 years is 33% retained value - lots of cars take only 3 years to reach 33% residuals!

My dad bought a brand new Xsara on a 54 plate, thats now 4 years old. He paid £13k, its now worth about £2500 for a private sale. Thats 19% residuals in 4 years.

If anyone wants to sell me their vRS for 50p ill take it, would be handy to have spares. I might even to to 75p for the right car.

£1

:D

Dam too rich for me

Is it 50p or ten a penny? If its the latter then put me down for twenty pence worth.

Plus they were on sale for 13k for quite a while at the end , and second hand values will inevitably be set based on that as a new price , irrespective of how much it actually cost new.

They may not be fetching what people would like but I don't think they are doing too badly compared to other similar vehicles

Well mine's priceless!

Yes, but what about the car?:D

Spot on IMO, don't forget they were bargains when new. Weren't the latter ones being snapped up for nearer £13k with some haggling

I looked at 53 plates after I had my 52 plater for a year and excluding the odd super bargain, that you can be 99% sure is dodgy or a shed, prices seemed about the same. :) Mine isn't going anytime soon now. I had planned on getting an ST220 but I don't think I would like the fuel bills and the Octy is returning a steady 32MPG average

People are buying cars based on the new road tax.

I've recently be trying to source a car for my dad and during that time visited quite a few dealerships and a couple of auctions - Let me tell you if you want to see cheap cars you should go to an auction.

Biggest hit are large petrol engined people carriers and 4X4, closely followed by anything getting hammered when the car tax goes up - It's almost on a par with panic buying and yet I'm sure people will be losing more on trade in etc than the increase in RFL.

A few surprised me at the auctions, X type Jag TDi & Saab 9.3 TDi were cheap at auction, pretty much anything VAG was making good money except Superb and low spec MKII Octy's. Vectra and Mondildo's were bargains too if that's your thing.

With much of the stuff making up to 2k below Glasses trade, one real surprise was the Honda Jazz TDi's making over book money.

One of the auctions I went to had a lot of ex Motability stuff, many with circa 1.6 petrol and auto boxes - Shocking low values.

Can you elaborate? :) Cars/age/prices?

I've thrown my list of prices away now as we got him a car but the best auction we went to was -

Aston Barclay Auctions WESTBURY

You can view the stock list online.

Tuesday and Friday is better to keep the level of Joe Public to a minimum.

We also went to Bridgwater

but cars were more expensive there and it was a Citroen only auction. All cars were ex Citroen UK fleet.

How do you get a handle on realistic prices?

Do you mean at an Auction?

You should do a little bit of homework before you go, get there early and if possible have a copy of Glasses or CAP with you.

While we were looking for a Seat Leon for my sister we came across loads of Leon Cupras (180bhp) all over the place, all seemed to be going for between 3k and 4k with reasonable mileage. Looks like people are binning them off as they will be paying £240 a year RFL going forward :( Couldn't persuade her to buy one though... she did the sensible thing and got a Tdi

I got one of the last Mk1s (06 plate) and paid £12500 for it with 7 miles on the clock. Bloomin bargain at the time.

Yep , there was nothing else to touch it for the price , but Skoda dropping the list price of new cars effectively devalued all second hand ones overnight.
