Would you trade in for?

Featured Replies

Hay guys and girls, would you trade in your Fabia vRS for a MK5 Golf Gti?Any good and bad points about the gti? other than MPG :)Anyone got one?Cheers! Matt

think you could make ya fabia just as good. everyones got a golf. stay different and keep ya furby!

Not really many problems with the golf to be honest.

Few wee niggles here and there but noting major, as yet.

They are well built motors.

Many of them have been sold though.

They are quite common.

Well built engines and pull quite well.

Dont think there any faster than a mapped VRS though.

Thats my advice coming from a VW background.

high 6 sec 0-60, ment to be an amazing drive, even read somewhere, perfect car for first ring trip. Not heard a bad word about them. Even if a mapped fabia was as quick, id doubt it`ll go round corners anywhere near as well. Id have one anyday!

Mk5 GTI 2.0TFSI is definitely leagues ahead of the Fabia in terms of power, looks, handling...

The consumption would be quite a bit harder on the wallet though, circa 30mpg.

If you can afford it, I think you should go for it!

I dont agree with the power bit (Fact: My mapped fabia can keep up with an Edition30), but yeah.

Thats why there double the price i suppose.

I'd have one, but wouldnt trade the fabia for it.

I'd get to bored of it too easy i think.

See the write up on the new Pirelli GTI matt86hew?

Read it today.

If you have the money, i'd go for that.

But more power and a bit more exclusive.

Or the Edition30.

Ok 200BHP is not bad but youd always want a bit more.

And knowing other mk5 GTI's have a bit more power and are nicer looking i'd have one of the more exclusive ones.

As said, if you have the money, go for it.

If its what you want then the edition 30 is the one to in for....300 bhp revo remap anyone? :D

I`m not a golf fan apart from the Mk1 GTI, everyone seems to have a golf which makes them common and dull.

a Mk5 GTi did a rather convincing job of cornering infront of my mates Porsch Boxster. Superb chassis for a tall hatchback

underneath its still an octavia......

I'd definately have one. With 200bhp and a torquey turbo petrol engine, a fabia with just a remap wouldn't stand much of a chance. If i drove it like a fabia though, my petrol bill would be a bit of an issue.

Bang for buck, the Fabia simply cannot be beaten.

I'd disagree, having owned a Mk2 Octy vRS with the same engine, and a remapped fabia. The Fabia feels quicker, but just isn't.

I fancy one myself - but with the Scirocco just out, and the new Golf in Jan early next year should be a better time to buy used as values should weaken a bit then!

Economy would be a bit of a shock, but then for a 2l turbo petrol it isn't bad, and better than a lot of its peers (Focus ST for example!)

Scirocco all the way... End of thread!!!!!

I have a lot of time for the current GTi - certainly a marked improvement over the Mk4 variants.

Don't really think it's fair to compare the two though. The Golf is an upgrade both in size and refinement terms, as well as cost. Certainly very capable, and easy to live with. And the economy isn't that bad, considering it's a petrol turbo with that sort of standard performance.

I'd consider one, if I was in the market for that sort of car and had the funds. Would I actually go through with it though, against a 2.0T Octy vRS? Tricky one, but I don't think I would - I'd stick with a Czech :)

Golf GTI has been tarnished ever since they stuck the 2.0 8v in there.

What a joke.

Some bender I know just chopped his old car in for one.

He was braggin the other night about how he's getting a "Golf GTI innit".

I asked if it was the MK4 1.8T and he replied "Mah mate the 2.0"

"Turbo?"

"oooh uh...Dunno"

"Theyre slower than my skoda ya know"

"Haha, get off mate, wouldnt be seen dead ina skoda"

Fool.

I love golfs, a battered old MkII that me and bro did up was my first, loved it!! I would love to get another one, lucky you for having the money. Get one in white, they look so good in white!!

I've still got that PVW mag where they put a few Tuned Diesels (Including Luke's old Jabba'd one to 200-something (243?) bhp) against a (Supposedly) standard Golf GTi mk5, the Jabba'd Fabia was only slightly faster than the Golf, and that was in only a few categories, make of that what you will :o

A few weeks back there was ltd edition Pirelli one PH (230bhp) dont think its there anymore though.

i've had a couple of test drives recently thinking of trading in my '05 vrs...

'05 gti DSG and '07 gti Ed 30 DSG.

both very nice cars, fast and smooth  but...

with my sensible head, once you work out the costs..

are they 2 or 3 times as good as the fabia

i've decided to hold onto my vrs for the time being.

cheers matt
