Climatronic: cool in front, warm in the back. What's up!?!

Featured Replies

As per subject.

I often have this situation where the front vents have cool air coming out from them and the rear central vent (and the ones beneath the front seats pointing toward the back seats) is venting warm air.

This makes for a very unpleasant ride, because... well... my bottom tends to feel uncomfortably warm and, being on leather seats, it's really bad. :thumbdwn:

Does anyone have experience with something similar. Is it normal?

Edit: forgot to mention, this is a MY07 L&K.

Left dial is for passengers, right is for driver.

Are they both set the same? You can resync them by pressing and holding the auto button.

Just to get confirmation, backseat passengers get the temp of the front passenger?

Somewhat of an average of the two.

The temperature is the same for both left and right.

Let's say 22°. I get cold air from the front and warm air in the back. Again, is it normal or should I call service?

It's a tad warmer by the time it reaches the rear vents, but not significantly so.

Then I guess I need to take it to the service. I'm talking about significantly cool in the front and significantly warm in the rear. :(

Could be a sticking flap motor.

I had this with my Elegance model and the dealer was no help whatsoever, making me feel like I was imagining it!! Now got Ambiente model, and with it's less complicated controls have not had any problems with sticking and ticking flaps plus the wrong temperatures. I hope you have more luck with your dealer.

My Nov 06 Vrs Octy Saloon ( with dual zone Climatronic ) started making weird noises last week in Cornwall, sounded like a coffee percolator was sat behind the dash, this occurred when "aircon" was switched on, and for a minute or so after it was switched off.

Also noticed that even if both sides were set to "Low" then the passenger side was cool at best, despite the driver side being cold.

I also noticed a whining sound whenever the "aircon" was engaged, as if the alternator was under a heavy load.

Took it to Bickerton at Sheffield this morning, demonstrated the problem to the technician ( worth a thousand words to receptionist ! )

I am taking it back in on Friday, they have ordered a new condensor and "Climatronic Unit" whatever that is.

Apparently I would be looking to pay £1000 if it was out of warranty.

I know this is not quite the problem you describe, but it is worth ruling those items out before the warranty ends.

There is a key combination to reset the air flaps position which makes it re-learn where everything should be, thus getting rid of the noise.

Luckily your dealer doesn't know that, you get a free new clima unit. The exact key combo is in the climatronic thread, think it was econ+ the upper right button next to recirculation.

What is the thread you are referring to? I can't find it...

I have the exact problem.

Bu feet feel too warm and my wife and kid are swetting at the back seat =(

Car is '08 2.0TDi Elegance.

I have tried to recalibrate climatronic and even took it to dealer because of it.

They did not find anything wrong with it but as I told them that I can feel with my hand that bottom (feet) / rear air vents are blowing much varmr air than upper they did plug it to tester and noticed that what ever they did there was ~20Celsius degrees difference... so the problem was not between my ears =)

They tried to explane me something like that lower part is near to exhaust system etc etc. but thats bullocs.

They did not know how to fix it and my feet have been swetting for one year =(

Next time I'll take the manual version.

I believe that uses the same flap motors, so you could get the same scenario.
