Octy II replacement HU with correct wiring - still loses settings

Featured Replies

A few weeks ago I replaced the standard Stream HU with an after-market Clarion DXZ388RUSB with built in MP3. I bought the official Skoda surround and wiring kit and, after checking the ISO connections, swapped the permanent and ignition 12v wires over before wiring everything up. Not sure why I had to swap the 12v wires with the official kit but there ya go. Now, the HU won't come on until I turn on the ignition - this is as it should be. If I turn off the ignition the HU turns off. All good so far.

My problem is that after about two days of non-use the HU loses all it's settings. Before I go taking everything out again has anyone else had this? If the 12v perm. and ign. wires were swapped I'd expect the HU to work without the ignition on but it doesn't. If I leave the HU overnight then it remembers it's settings the next day - just not two days later.

The only part of the process I was unsure of was changing a fuse on the HU itself. The instructions said to move it from position A to position B if I had a VW or Audio. Seeing as I have a Skoda that seemed to apply to me too. Unfortunately the installation instructions didn't explain the function of the fuse though as it's 15A I'd expect it to be the main power feed.

Any thoughts before I start taking everything out and testing it with a multi-meter?

Cheers

I'd guess that you've swapped the wires in the loom and then 'swapped' them back with the fuse arrangement.

In my Octy II I simply ran a permanent 12V wire across to the main fuse box (RHD side of dash) and connected it to an unused 12V socket with a 10-amp fuse.

vrstu - popped out to the car, took everything out and then swapped the fuse over. No smoke or burning smell so far :)

mr200sx - may end up doing that myself and moving the 12v ignition wire to a different spot in the fusebox to make it a permanent feed. Depends how frustrated I become with having to have the ignition (and thus the dash warning lights) on to listen to the radio :D

I'd agree.

Thanks for all the responses.

What did surprise me is just how good the standard Octy speakers are - with the Stream there was considerable distortion at higher volumes. With the new Clarion I can turn it up to seat-vibrating, ear-ringing levels with hardly a whiff of it  That's with MP3s too.

Previously I had a MkI Seat Leon and when I traded it in for the Octy both me and The Wife noted how the Leon sounded better. Just goes to show how you get used to something.

So have you sorted the problem now?

I've been bleating on for ages about how good the OEM speakers are but no one believes me.

Not sure yet - trying to avoid using the car today so it gets a clear two day period where I haven't used the radio. I'll let you know Monday :)

Went out this morning and the car's not been used since mid-morning Saturday - almost two days. Popped the radio fascia in and switched the car on. All my radio stations and setting were there :D

Hopefully it's sorted but I'll know for sure when I don't use the car over a long weekend.

Good news then.
