Going out of my mind with a pinking problem. Car is Fabia 1.4 16V Comfort. The car has been back to the dealer 4 times, each time they claim to have fixed the fault. They have replaced 2 Lambda detectors (engine management light was on -now OK) Spark Plugs (38,000 miles) and some kind of intake valve.

The car goes well and is economical, but pinks like mad on hills, without labouring on a moderate throttle.

Could I be using the wrong fuel? Would Super unleaded help? The fault seemed to get worse after filling up with ordinary unleaded 2 days ago.

The car was fine until about 2 months ago. I bought it last November. Oil consumption seems quite high for 38K.

where do you fill up?

Local BP Garage, but have tried other places and it doesn't go away.

My old 16v Comfort had a lot of issues. Eventually part of the wiring loom had to be replaced (under warranty!).

While the power loss seemed to creep up on me, my mum (the most ferquent passenger) did notice it and often got worried at roundabouts (no such problem with the vRS ). I certainly noticed it once I got the car back, the mid-range was fantastic.

Oil use was minimal on that car.

I would suggest the next time you are at your dealer trying to take one of their guys out in the car or trying a similar mileage second hand car from their forecourt if they give the "They all do that" comment.
