Water ingress in drivers door wiring loom replacement question

Featured Replies

If i need to replace the wiring loom in the drivers door is this easy or will i have to pysically cut wires etc.

Just heard that a lot of Skoda dealerships replace wiring looms because of water causing faults just wanted to ask if it was difficult to do as a DIY job.

Thanks

I would have thought u only need to replace the loom (or a section of it) if the wires were broken (ie. at the hinge point). Water ingress will normally only affect the connector blocks, which given a bit of time can generally be cleaned up - and is a lot cheaper than replacing a section of the loom (plus cheaper, unless you have lots of pressing stuff to get done at home!)

New door loom around £50 + VAT and quite easily DIYable. If you can remove the door trim panel, loom replacement will be within your capabilities. It connects behind the trim panel where the bonnet pull is and has plugs on it for all the various bits inside the door. Plus the old loom can be used as a source of electrical connectors which will allow you to repair the other door looms if they should fail.

Thanks for the help on this, is it easy to remove the plastic trim where the bonnet pull is and where you say all the connectors.

Is this a known area for water ingres?

water might enter via the bonnet release cable gromet hole.

One screw behind a cover and two screws on the release lever bracket. There is even a cut out in the trim where the bonnet cable can be slid through.
