Corrosion?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Wondered if anybody knew what to do with this (shown on the picture)? Its a 2001 Fabia Estate.

Thanks a lot,

Jim

The easiest thing would be to replace the trim, otherwise there is little you can do.

Thanks for getting back to me so quick!

Is this a big job? and is this something that is covered by the corrosion guarantee?

Jim

What is corroding is the metal strengthener in the rubber seal rather than the bodywork. I had this same problem on my old Fabia Combi, and sorted it with a new seal. Not too expensive from the dealer.

Easy job to do yourself but there are a couple of plastic clips it fixes onto that are likely to break so get your self a couple of those as well, they cost pennies IIRC

Hi, sad to see that your rubber trim is swelling. Same applies to other cars, too- for instance to my previous VW Golf. There is steel stiffener inside and it rusts, why?

My wife's Fabia mark one has a more serious problem. I wish I had a photo to show you, but not this time.

WATCH AND CHECK your vehicles immediately. There is a gap between front fender lower portion and the door threshold. It seems to collect dirt eg. fir tree needles, seeds etc. bio mass not to mention soil (at least it will rot and turn into that very soon).

Our Fabia has started rusting at that point. There is a postage stamp sized area where water has crept under the paintwork. Galvanizing hasn't helped a bit.

I flushed both front fender gaps with water and hose. Oh boy what dirt it got loose and running.

Take care,

Weetu

Hi, i replaced one of mine recently as it had a dent in it.

£6 i think it was. Not exactly breaking the bank, ha.

It just pulls out and pushes back in.
