THIS is what a non-vRS colour coded grille looks like!

Nice :)

Better than I expected. Wonder if it will age the same.

No reason why not, if the grille has been prepped properly for the paint to go on, and it's looked after...

Yup. And even if it does deteriorate quicker, i've still got the paint and it's only a small part to spray!

Seeing this I start to think there should have been chrome side trims of some kind on the non vRS models to match the grille.

Can I send you a Fabia one down for you to paint for me? :)

Can if you want, but it'd probably be cheaper to get it done locally i'd have thought. a small tin of paint was £5 and spraying was about £40 getting a mate to do it, but he's not around anymore so my next best sprayer was asking closer to £60. add on top of that the cost of a new grill as well as postage and you're probably looking close to a ton if not a little bit more. I was very careful with how I handled mine as it's VERY fragile plastic when it's dismantled from the backing and again, it's only plastic.

Happy to do it if you want, but you might want to have a look around nearer you to avoid it getting damaged in the post. The guy I used only uses solvent paint as opposed to the Skoda water-based paint as it's quicker to set and easier to use (although less environmentally friendly apparently which is why car companies don't use solvent stuff nowadays), i'd have thought it should be easy to get hold of although a lot of places only do a 1l minimum. I was able to find somewhere which sold it in 100ml amounts and it took less than 50ml to spray! Don't know what would be needed for a fabia grille but I can't imagine it being much different. The tricky bit is getting the chrome bit off and then either getting the chrome itself off or using acid etch primer (not sure which way my pal went)

Let me know if you get truly stuffed though.

Ah, just saw your link Wardy: nice motor! Your fabia is closer to the Mk1 octy then with a bit round the chrome? I have no idea how that comes apart, whether it's easier or not but i'd be surprised if it needed more than a tiny tin of paint to cover it. Ask around some sprayers and see what prices you get, then come back to me. I'm assuming you've already got a spare grille cos otherwise you'd be driving around with a big hole while you sent it to me??

To be honest, it's the posting thing i'd be concerned about, just in case some numbnuts bends it and it cracked the paint, but it's not insurmountable.

You're most kind, but I'm sure it will all be in hand locally :)

And thanks for the compliment also

As I said, it's the postage thing i'd be worried about: i'd be gutted if it came out sweet then some d*ck at the post office b*ggered it up! And the more it gets packed safely, the more it costs to post!

yes have my grill like it and it does give it a mean look, even through the chrome grill didnt look too bad. have ideas now for what to do to the black fins on the grill too

Yes, you should really update your avatar pic
