Confused - iPhone 3G

Featured Replies

Sorry guys, Can someone please confirm before I take the plunge, whether the iPhone 3G will work with the Occy OEM phone kit. I've found some peeps saying that the original iPhone works (kind of), but I havent seen any confirmation on the iPhone 3G.

It's new toy time and I'd hate to make a mistake having been with t-mobile since they were one 2 one and having to leave them. I'm not sure I like the now Google android, so I still figure the i-phone is the better bet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Martin

:confuse:

I want to change to the iPhone 3G when my contract runs out as well.

Anyone?

Oh well guys,

I took the plunge, and after holding my breath, I can confirm that the iPhone 3G does work fully with the occy OEM BT kit. In fact, it is doing a bit more than my old W-910 in that the missed calls/accepted calls screens now work. Also, the phone book appends each contact with the type (work, home, mobile etc) so no more guesswork as to which one you are dialling. Sound quality is good as well, but I'll have to give it an extended test.

Also It partially works with my Denison ICE ipod adaptor I've got plugged into my MFD2. It plays music OK, but informs you that it won't charge the phone as it does with the older Nanos and Classics. This is a bit of a shame, but I suppose I can't have everything.

Bonus all round (apart from the charging issue)

They changed the pinout on the charging part of the newer Ipods so I suppose a new wire should be on the market soon for the newer models.

If I find the pinout again I will let you know, using that and an Ipod plug one can make his/her own cable with charging function for the new models.

Cheers Sebulbus, that would be great if you could.

Great that it works on the Octy BT Kit, just a shame that its a not great phone hyped up cos of the apple brand on a crap (3g) network.

Here's a starter:

Apple iPod and iPhone dock interfaces pinout and signals @ pinouts.ru

You need to read the part that says

USB Data (+)

Pins 25 and 27 may be used in different manner. To force the iPod 5G to charge in any case, when "USB Power 5 VDC" (pin 23) is fed, 25 must be connected to 5V through a 10kOhm resistor, and 27 must be connected to the Ground (for example: pin 1) with a 10kOhm resistor.

To charge an iPhone 3G, usb data- (25) should be at 2v, usb data+(27) should be at 2.8v. This can be done with a few simple resistors: 33k to +5v (23) and 22k to gnd(16) to obtain 2v and 33k to +5v and 47k to gnd to obtain 2.8v. This is a "notification" to the iphone that it is connected to the external charger and may drain amps from the usb.

You can get SMD dock connectors from SparkFun Electronics

If you take those to the local soldering iron guru he should be able to design a breakout box for you with a female connector on one end, male at the other and power connections in between.

How-To: Design your own iPod super dock (Part 1) - Engadget At the bottom of the page there's the custom EAGLE library for the Ipod connector, this will save the guy a day of work.

Just been in contact with ipodcarkitdirect, a distrubutor of Dension products, and they tell me that the icelink plus won't charge the iphone 3G.

BUT

Dension, the makers of the Skoda ipod kit make a Gateway 100 & 300, which, with a new lead that arrived in the UK on friday, WILL charge an iphone 3G.

So, we just have to upgrade (throw away/sell) our skoda kit to a gateway 100 & get the new lead & you can use the iphone via bluetooth to make calls whilst charging it using the docking cable & listening to your music (not at the same time as making calls though!)

Cheers for that Mike, I was hoping they'd just release a new cable. Suppose they have to make money somehow.

Unfortunately, the Dension Ice Link Plus supplied by Skoda is discontinued by Dension. It has been replaced by the Gateway 100.

So Skoda are selling us out of date kit.

Not impressed, as I've only had my ipod kit a week & found out about the Gateway 100 after I'd installed the Ice Link Plus.
