Here you go ....it's a featherlite fire pump  (it's a strugle for two people to lift it) capable of pumping 400 gallons a minute ...destined for my sons fire engine.

Best part is to start it you wind a rope round a pulley and PULL :D it seems to run very well.

A modified version went as already said to be used in the Hillman imp and was used to some success in different forms of racing

That reminds me of some old Howard rotavators that my grandfather used to use to do his garden... starting those was always a bit of a laugh.

Not as odd as the lister diesel engine powered pressure washer we have outside, which has a special starting handle which is inserted only to start the engine....

Been there and done that especially the Howard rotovator and also started an Atco mower with a starting hanle ...trick was not to let go of it when the engine did finally start .....thing is with this coventry engine I have never started a car engine with a pull cord before ...scared the living daylights out of me but it started after a few pulls and made me jump.

if we can find a way of recording it I might try and put a vid clip on youtube later

Have you ever driven an Imp? A friend of mine built a rally car based on one. Forever banging my head on the roll cage :)

Have I driven an IMP  .....yes and it was on crossply tyres ...how the hell I survived I have no idea......did see the same imps front wheels leave the ground after a very enthusiastic hill start.....but apart from that I can't say I am a fan

Designed by Johnny Vaughn's grandad or some thing. He talked about it on Top Gear.

No Bas, you are thinking about Debie does Dallas

I had loads of those pumps to look after and repair, when the fire brigade could not be arsed to go to work, and Op Fresco was called.

They were a pretty good pump, not as good as the green Goddes though!

I may have had one of those...
