Which suspension is made for comfort ?????

Featured Replies

drop 60mm and keep super-comfortable? Forget it, not on British roads. On the continent, due to smoother tarmac it' may be doable but not here.

20mm-30mm drop max, you need OEM sport springs (the suspension is the same) or Eibach ones, and slightly tauter shocks to compensate for reduced spring travel (e.g. Bilstein sports, or red Konis)

Well, first you have to define word 'comfortable'. If it means gentle, big-american-limousine style ride then obviously 45-60 mm drop is out of the question. There cannot be soft springs with so small spring travel distances.

On the other hand, if comfortable means sharp, precise, more-road-feel-like (some might even say hard) ride then you will definitely get what you after with 60 mm lowering.

However, some (like myself) like take the middle-path. Not that dramatic drop but enough to give "comfort" of both kinds. I got Eibach Pro-System (Pro-Kit + Pro-Dampers) with about 30-35 mm drop. It's harder than standard suspension but not too much. And at highway speeds it is in it's own class. Faster you drive, better it works.

I reckon the looks play quite big role in your case as you're after quite big drop?

Agreed. No lowered suspension offers as much comfort as OE - let alone more.

That said... perhaps airbags would be the way to go? I understand they don't change the handling/comfort from standard (in fact it may go slightly softer) but of course you can lower as much as you like.

Expensive of course, unless you've just purchased, say, £20bn worth of savings at a knock-down price... :D

Exactly, I seem to remember that there are two grades of VAG suspension, "comfort" or "sport" - its all in the name.

BTW Bluefox, the term "airbags" was an unfortunate choice here, it will probably lead to "how do extra roof and side air bags make the car more comfortable" ?!?

Good point.

Let me clarify:

Still not clear, she is covering them up!

Do you think she is really heavy? She only has one foot on the running board, and look what she has done!

You may have uncovered a big tuning secret there... ;)

You could save yourself the cost of slabs and stick her in the boot ..... awwww man I'm sure there's a punchline in there somewhere.

She wouldn't be in the boot, that's for sure...

Hm, what was the topic of this thread again?

I was thinking more of the line "stick her in the boot" .... mental images can't be posted .... thankfully.

Does anyone know what Sports suspension offers the least drop ie - Eibachs 30mm etc?

Got Eibachs on mine. They're good. They stiffen up the ride and hence reduce roll and pitch. You do feel bumps in the road a little more but nothing too bad.

As you said they drop it by -30mm but so far I've not caught a speed hump or anything with them.

A tad more road noise through the cabin but it's hardly noticable.

By most accounts Eibachs are one of the best spring sets you can get.

Unsure if there's anything else that lowers it less. Give Eibach a call or just check out their site.

Eibach Springs UK

I know you can get spring kist that lower the front by 50mm and the rear by 20mm ..... dunno maybe there's a kit that lowers both front/rear by only 20mm. If you're thinking of towing with it on lowered springs, without new struts you may want to think about rubber stops. There's a post on here somewhere about it.

I think OEM sport-springs lower about 20 mm or less.

Yes, it is 20mm. My Superb has sports on front (-20mm) and hd on the rear, (+20mm), that gives a nice stance when empty, and a normal look when the boot is full + towbar box on,

Handling with Bilstein Sports in all corners is very good both when empty and when the car is full. Well, very good for a Superb, anyway.

What makes do you have fitted, as I do drag a caravan, so only what to lower the front and rear about 20 mm?

OEM Skoda/VW springs all round, just different varieties. Front are Sport suspension springs, rear are Heavy Duty suspension ones (from the rough road package which included a lot of underside covers and higher ground clearance). Don't remember the part numbers, sorry, but someone with ETKA should help

Shock absorbers are Bilstein Sports B6 katalog.bilstein.de will help you with part numbers.

I'd second that.

Other than the OE "sport" springs, Eibach are -30mm and the KW I use are -40.

Most other manufacturers don't list the Superb.

(I'm fairly impressed this ended up back on topic!) ;)
