upgraded sound system

Featured Replies

I heard that there exists some new technical service bulletin or something. I expect my delivery beginning of june. I hope that my SS will do fine. B)

Very happy with my new Superb II apart from the upgraded sound system, which like others, I experience a nasty vibration when the bass or volume is pumped up.

I rang the local dealer who booked the car straight in for this morning and they have just rung to say they have found a fault and are replacing a speaker.

Anyone else get a resolution on this?

Please Please Pleeeeeeeeeease keep us posted .

Update;

My dealer has replaced the two front speakers - which were both blown!

The horrible distortion has now been replaced with the standard distortion.

I don't feel there is any more the dealer can do now as it is clear to me that the speakers are not capable of handling the power output of the upgraded amplifier.

I now intend to get my lease company to raise a formal complaint with Skoda UK that the sound upgrade is not fit for purpose and ask for my £305 to be returned. I will then look to put this towards a proper hi-fi upgrade.

Anyone have any recommendations for a non-Skoda hi-fi upgrade?

I have it in my Octavia and love it, when we ordered the Superb for my wife i forgot to add it and now i right ****ed off i didn't get it..

so yes i would get it if i was buying again.

If you want to add an option to your order you can't leave it as late as 3 weeks before the build date - although I understand that has been the general rule in the past (some say there was a sliding scale from 6 down to 3 weeks depending upon what the change is). I tried to add rear window sun blinds to my order about 6 weeks before the build week and it was rejected by SUK.

I'm not sure if there was a computer issue or if the factory embargoed changes to allow them to switch production to UK models in the hope they could bring forward orders.

One of the dealers has told me recently that this applies to all models and not just the Superb. It seems the only way to be sure you'll get an option is to include it in the initial order.

I have just added the upgraded sound system today. 5 weeks from build week. The dealer said that was right on the limit for any changes. I dropped the Life-Time Shine off the order list.emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

When I had my Superb it had two buzzing speakers in the front (it had the upgraded sound system option).

I have spoken to another owner who had exactly the same problem.

I recall reading a suggestion some time ago that a factory production line' test' consisted of turning the volume right up to test the soundsystem which tended to blow the speakers which couldn't handle the power of the upgraded system.

I never had mine back to the dealers whilst I had it (it had no other faults) but I would have had the front speakers replaced in due course.

Sadly, it's factory fit only. I don't think it would be easy to retrofit either, as you'd need all new speakers, new front door panels, the wiring loom and the amplifier itself. Probably cost more in parts and time than it was worth.

Depending on when your car is due to be built, you might still be able to add it. If you are at least 3 weeks out from build, then you should be okay.

Bagpuss.

If it helps. I have just added the sound upgrade to my order. The dealer said that I just made the cut-off. 5 weeks to BW. emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Sorry, a bit off topic, but re. the fact that the amplifier is under the driver's seat. Is this still the case on the Elegance model with leather, electric and heated seats? Just that the storage compartment is removed from under the front passenger seat, so I wondered if they couldn't store anything under the seats (incl Amp)?!

Sorry if this is an idiotic Qs.

yes the amp is under the seat and there is no storage compartment

My speakers have worn in nicely and sound pretty good for a factory instal , sure they cant handle deep bass but thats what subwoofers do, i do wonder if its a case of people expecting too much

Listen to a movie in the car and the speakers are great

Has anyone addressed the problem of the vibrating door cards? ie. had the door cards removed and packed etc without going to the extent of new speakers?. My bass speakers were really annoying during the really cold weather and buzzed like blazes but the problem seems to have improved with the "warmer" weather. My dealer decided to order up a whole new set of speakers for both the front doors and then failed to contact me for 6 weeks!!!. I am tempted to go to a car audio specialist and get their opinion. I know that they will condemn the OE speakers and try to sell me something else, but I have no problems with the sound quality from the OE speakers (It did take a bit of fiddling to get a decent setting to settle the harsh treble) it is just the fitting that is letting them down.

The vibrating door "cards" is a familiar problem with the "upgrade" speakers on VAG cars. I had a mk V Golf GTI with a upgraded speaker kit, and it was exactly the same problem. As soon as you threw some bass at the system the door panels began to vibrate. Since then I decided to not opt for a upgraded speaker kit in any VAG car ever again. Frankly It's bull****.

I've ordered a Superb combi now, and my plan is to replace the standard 8 speakers with some decent speakers, and then install a amplifier and one or two subs in the rear.

God knows there's plenty of room for subs :)

Are there anyone in this forum that has a wiring diagram for the Bolero?

I've had my Superb for 3 weeks and had the same problem from day 1. Very disappointed as the system seems to struggle with certain low frequencies. It's not a volume issue, I often have this problem with the volume at 4 or 5 (although it gets worse the louder the volume is). I now have the bass and mid range settings about as low as they can go just to make it less annoying.

The good news is that my local dealer has also looked at it and agrees it's a problem. They've raised a technical request with Skoda UK, so hopefully all will be sorted soon....... :S

Best of luck with that, I wouldn't hold your breath though'

Heard both systems. The upgrade is way better IMO. Phil. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

My 2009 superb had the standard system and I was never satisfied. My 2010 Superb Combi has the upgraded system and it is definitely a big improvement. This is an absolute fact (at least for me).

That said, I have heard better systems in other cars. These better systems however, cost a lot, lot, more than the Skoda upgrade. The skoda upgrade has excellent separation and treble, but less than perfect bass (but good enough IMHO).

I have noticed that the volume has to be close to half way for the speakers to really produce "presence"

The radio has quite a few equalizer setting but I've left mine on linear and did my own adjusting of treble, midrange and bass.

I have not experienced the vibrations others have written about but on the other hand I don't like "ghetto music", LOL but you know what I mean.

In the states I've been next to quite a few cars that make the whole street vibrate to their heavy bass. The Skoda upgrade will not come near to doing this, but it does put out a descent bass, for a car without a subwoofer . Anyone wanting I deeper bass will need a subwoofer.

Perhaps the issue has been corrected at the factory by now. My 2009 Superb with the "upgraded" sound system is now beginning to sound even worse as the colder weather is starting and the car "contracts" a little. In hot weather the buzz from the door cards seemed to be less annoying.

To be honest , the Skoda sound system is still a bit weedy in my opinion, 10 speakers at 250w? I looked into retrofitting and the results that people have had and the only benefit seemed to be getting an equaliser option on screen, which with preset equalisation does not really give much flexibility. I went for a Blaupunkt PNP THA475 ( 4x 75W RMS, 4 X 150W Peak Plug and play amp and loom which pretty much just plugs in ( although you have to fit a couple of 4 Ohm resistors across the rear speaker feeds to fool the head unit into believing there is a speaker load on the system otherwise it removes the fader option) the sound is far better, bass is much more tightly controlled, even on the lousy standard speakers, and I have modified the pnp loom to give me a third feed to take a speaker level feed to a 400W RMS, 800w Peak Kenwood amp for a 13" ( Focal 33x) sub build I am doing to fit in the space behind the wheel well on the nearside. I'll be removing the standard speakers and fitting Focal Utopia 165W components with crossovers in the front and RF TS 165's in the rear on custom mdf mounts along with sound deadening the doors, will make for stunning sound. with this setup and the crossovers on the components, the bass control becomes a sub level control as the undesirable bass frequencies are filtered by the crossovers leaving the door speakers to do what they were deigned for and the SUB to provide the bass.

The Blaupunkt Amp fits very nicely under my passenger seat without losing any storage either so is a great solution, anyone interested and I'll post some pics.

Very Interested in pics, I have considered this amp too, but I have the full electric seats up front so not sure about the room yet?

hate to disappoint you but no..... it's not been sorted. My 2011MY superb has the same issue. the problem is more with the drivers side front door, although not great throughout.

The dealer has been good though, acknowledged the problem and is now speaking with Skoda direct. Apparently they have had 4 complaints in the last month for the same problem so I still live in some kind of hope.....

I have to say this upgraded sound system is somewhat of a disappointment to me. I've normally optioned BOSE on Audis, and the quality is simply way ahead of the Skoda system. At any reasonable volume (I'm over 50 btw, so I'm not looking for ground moving bass) the speakers in the doors vibrate unless I wind down the bass below mid settings.

Whilst I can live with this, apart from the separation of channels the sound quality is relatively poor for a "premium" factory solution - I expect it is mainly down to the door speakers.

I dont think you should compare the Sound system upgrade in the superb with the BOSE and Bang & Olufsen upgrades in the Audis. My current Audi A4 (2009) has an upgraded sound system with 10 speakers. The price for this upgraded system is about the same as the Superb upgrade. The B&O system upgrade for this car is about 3 times more expensive than the system I have.

I have reached the conclusion that Audi offer Bose and B&O systems as a frail attempt to put their cars up to a higher standard than Skoda. It is a poor excuse for the higher prices.

Ther Skoda system would be quite adequate if the doors were packed and assembled better.

You are probably right. But I still don't believe that you should compare the Skoda Sound System with the current B&O in Audi. The B&O in the A4 is a 14 speaker system with an active DSP that dynamically changes the EQ-curve to suite the current noise level in the car. This is done with the help of a couple of microphones placed inside the car.

A more fair comparison would be the 10 speaker sound system upgrade (Called Audi Soundsystem) that is available for the Audi. As said earlier, I got it in my current A4 and it sounds ok, with no problems of vibrating doors.

With that being said, the Superb Sound System should preform equally as the Audi Soundsystem. I hope that Skoda sorts out the vibrating doors so that all owners that have this problem could have it fixed.
