Octavia II Door Screw

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could tell the the type of driver I need to tighten the M8/20 screw on the door. It's not the main hinge but the wee black bracket in between. I thought it was a torx 40 but it isnt and only managed to strip the head of the screw.

I have a new screw now from my dealer (ordered via phone and posted) but the spares department could not tell me what head was on it. The part number is N 908 961 01.

If anyone could help or point me in the right direction where I can get a tool to tighten this correctly I would be most happy.

Thanks,

John

Does it look like a star, if so try a spline set.

Should this not be merged with this thread?

:duck: Sorry, couldn't resist.

I always assumed these were torx, if not so whats the difference between spline and torx?

Torx are 6 point

I think the spline set is 12 point

Isn't the German type a triple square (which is slightly different from spline drive)?

So you may probably be able to get a torx bit into a spline screw but not vice versa (might explain why I was able to get at some of the trim screws on mine :))

Glad to see I am not the only one who has to tighten this screw a couple of times a year. Only on the drivers side door though (strange ?!?!?)

Isn't the drivers door the one opened the most?

Tried using studlock/threadlock or similar?

Yeah, but it will butcher it fairly quickly.

Torx seem to have a slight angle on them so even if they fit in the slot perfectly, they won't be 100% engaged.
