vRS insurance for young drivers

Featured Replies

My insurance is up for renewal and its not budged much on the price. it was the cheapest i could find to begin with but i'm sure i can do better than the renewal quote of just over 1k. i'm 22 years old with 2 years no claims and an SP30 on my license. is anyone in a similar position and if so who is the best to go with in your experience and what are you paying? bearing in mind i also have to insure for business use. i've not started shopping around yet but just thought i'd get an idea of where to look as this forum is always helpful!

thanks in advance:thumbup:

I`ve just taken out a quote with Swiftcover for 300 in toto. I`m 26 4 years NCB and sp30.

I was blown away by the price and I`m sure they can beat that 1k renewal.

You will need access to a printer tho as they dont send your docs out. You have to print em yourself.

Thats why they are cheap tho I guess.

Give them a go on there site.

Bell.com, esp with their bonus accumulator, 10 month policy for a full years NCB (with any provider), obvioussly you pay more relatively month to month. But they are very cheap to start with if paying in a lump sum, but if paying monthly they are far from cheap.

Thanks for the replys, i'll have a look into those

£650 for a 10 month bonus accelerator from Admiral.

I'm 24, no NCB due to a write-off for £3000 in December, SP50 and a MW10 on my licence (6 points total). Was quite chuffed with that price! :D

If you're young try putting your parents on it too - adding my dad lowered the quote by around £150, adding Mum lowered by 84p!

Saying that, I think it's technically illegal to put people on it to lower the quote if they don't actually drive it.

Oh, out of interest I quite like to change all the options on the quote form to see if I could make it any beter - found I could have knocked off another £150 or so, but I wasn't really up for getting a sex change and finding a hubby!

Only if you put them on as a main driver and the actual main driver is a named driver. Putting parents on as named drivers and them never actually using it is perfectly legal, all you're doing is making sure that if they need to drive your car they would be doing it legally while being fully covered for liability.

I paid £900 for my insurance on a vRS. This was a week before I turned 20, with 1 years NCB, on a 12-month policy. Admiral are king!

Admiral are sounding good then! i'll see what they can do for me.

cheers

I insured my VRS a week after my 19th bda, it cost me just over 1k with Zurich. very gd price for my age and as other insures wouldnt touch me

I'm 19, living in a rougher area of Swansea (Gorseinon), 2yrs NCB, Clean License and I paid £850 with Swiftcover

The best quote I got recently at 19 was with Admiral, another recommendation for them from me. Though strangely I didn't go with them :D

£300 for a 26 year old with an SP30....

What's missing from the cover?

£616 and im 20, fully comp, 1 years NCB, 3 years experience and a write off claim in 2005. with Elephant!

:)

im 27 with 3yrs NCB, no points, with elephant £220

I can't get anywhere near that for an Octy, so I'm amazed if that includes legal cover, hire car and the other bits and pieces.

What's missing from the cover?

Amazingly nothing

Thats why I gave up 6 months of an existing years NCB to cancel and move straight with them.

No paperwork coz its all online. Brill.

Happy days, there's hope for me yet! ;)

Out of interest, what's a MW10?

My insurance is £320 Protected, Comp, 7 years no claims

Out of interest, what's a MW10?

Motorway Offences

MW10 Contravention of Special Roads Regulations

(excluding speed limits)

SP50 Exceeding speed limit on a motorway.........

Was someone having a race?

spelling, Again!!

Motorway Offences

MW10 Contravention of Special Roads Regulations

(excluding speed limits)

SP50 Exceeding speed limit on a motorway.........

Nope! The two offences were 2 years apart and had nothing to do with the write-off either! :P

MW10 was cause I was following a lorry through some roadworks and there was a marked police car was behind me. The speed limit was 40 and the lorry was doing 20. The roadworks ended, speed limit went back to 70 and the cones trailed off so I indicated out and overtook. Police car behind me followed for a couple of miles then pulled me over when I pulled off at the next junction - apparantly although the speed limit was 70 and the roadworks had ended there was still a big red 'X' on the gantry, so I got 3 points and a £60 fine!

SP50 was in the Fabia - my rear window washer pipe had popped off so I couldn't see anything out my rear window. Was late for work so was pushing it a bit, turned out I'd stuck my foot down right in front of a Police traffic car . Saying that he was quite interested in the Fabia, couldn't believe it pulled away from him from 60-96Mph up a hill so well!

I can vouch for Bell.co.uk I was 22, 2 years experience and 0 NCB when I bought my insurance in May and it was £750. I got the 10 month bonus accelerator.

They're customer services are also brilliant, I had to phone them a few times as I had a problem with a named driver and they helped me sort it out with ease. They are actually part of the Admiral group, not sure if you'd get a better deal directly.

Have you considered Direct Line, they were the most competitive I tried. Admiral gave me a cheaper quote but I got more with the DL quote. Everyone else was asking £100-200 more for essentially the same level of cover.

They have 0% APR so you don't pay for the privilege of paying monthly, plus they repair vandalism damage with out you losing any NCB (you have to get a Crime Ref Number).

I also selected £0 voluntary excess instead of £150 and my quote went up by only ~£30.

28yr, male, 5+ NCB and fiancee as named driver was £445: Fully Comp, Protected NCB, Legal up to £100k, Vandalism, Hire Car Plus.
