Engine Oil-Octavia MKII 1.8TFSI

Featured Replies

Iv`e recently had my Octy serviced due to the service computer warning to have it done. It`s only 12 months old and done less than 6000 miles, anyway took it to my local dealer who advised changing to a fixed interval service ie (12 monthly) from variable due to the probable low annual mileage.

Having collected my car I found the engine oil stated on the bill was Semi-Synthetic. I phoned them to find out what exactly they had used and they said it was VW 502 00 because I was now on a fixed sevice interval.

Having looked on Shell wbsite the recommended oil is Shell Helix Ultra VX (VW 502 00).

Do you think the dealer got it wrong to call the oil semi-synthetic if as they say the spec was VW 502 00.

By the way I believe my fuel consumption has increased since the service by 3-4 miles per gallon using the mfd .

Could this be due to the type of oil they have used, just a thought.

Cheers,Mal

I think they might have your new 1.8 confused with the older VW 1.8T, so it's worth checking your book.

For variable service it's VW504, but I have no idea what the fixed would be.

I'm not sure about the oil, but I agree that the fixed service intervals are a good idea for low mileage cars.

Hi,thanks for your replies guys. As regards my book it states for engine oil.

Fixed service intervals (QG0,QG2)petrol engines VW 501 01,VW 502 00,VW 504 00.

Flexible service intervals (QG1)petrol engines VW 503 00,VW 504 00.

I suppose I have to assume they have filled my engine with VW 502 00 as they said?

As regards to the increase in petrol consumption over a regular 10 mile journey at the end used to indicate 40mpg now indicates 37mpg with the same driving style. This has happened since it`s first service, I`m at a loss.Could it be the oil the dealer has replaced the factory fill with?

Cheers,

Mal:confused:

Probably the oil but oil isn't at its' slipperiest when new. It takes a while to break itself in.

I doubt its the oil more likely a more restrictive air filter than the one originally fitted or tyre pressures not correct.

I'd slap a new air filter in there to be fair as I change them every 10k on a TDI or notice a increase in consumption.

The VW502 oil might be a bit thicker than the VW504 that would have been in there, but should you desire you can run the more expensive oil (VW504) for fixed life servicing. Just a case of will it pay for itself on your low miles.
