Newbie in need of some TDi info!

Featured Replies

Hey there!

Well I need some technical info on a specific Fabia Model which I'm trying to track down. I was first looking for a VRS. But cant afford one - so i'm looking for some infor on the Elegance 1.9 TDi PD100. I've seen quite a few 100bhp TDi's for sale. But none of them mention the "PD" bit. When was the PD added to the model? it must be a PD as i'm going to tune the hell out of it, not immediately - but it will be an ongoing project! Cheers

Any other advice that would help too??

If you want to tune a TDI, then buy one.....

I think the TDi' are PD whereas the other type of injection system is SDi, from what I have seen, they tend to say SDi on the boot.

Best to ask the dealers for the specifics on them.

As for the introduction time, they came out in the vRS since 2003, not sure when they came to the fabia range, could be since the fabia was relesaed in 2000, PD engines have been out since about 1998....

Not sure about the turbo's on the non vRS fabia's, as they may not all be VTG enabled, so check for this...

How much you thinking of tuning it?

200bhp is my target

200bhp is my target

Then you will be looking at a bigger turbo :)

That is some serios modding mate!

Bigger turbo, larger intercooler etc.

Will the PD injectors be able to cope with the fuel increase? not sure if they are different sizes for lower powered engines? Somebody like Lummox would be able to answer this question.

Is the 100bhp PD capable of that? anybody on here got one poking out this power?

PD = Pump Duse... thats the limit of my technical knowledge :D

If it helps, my 53 plate Elegance is a 1.9 TDI PD. I went to look look at a couple of older models and they were also PD engines. I couldn't say for certain but it may be that you can only get 1.9 TDI PD Fabia's and the earlier TDI only engines are found in early Octavia's.

Hope that helps.

All diesel Fabias are PD with the exception of the SDi.

ALL 1.9 TDI fabias are pd100. (too late :o)

If you bolt on a VNT17 hybrid, FMIC and the pd130 injectors, 200hp is achievable and the engine should cope with it ok - including the gearbox. Factor in a new clutch for sure though.

Thats exactly the kind of info i'm after!

Seen a couple of lower mileage Elegance 1.9 TDi's for £3500 - which is fine that give me about £3000 to play with modding it (tuning and styling) - but i'm going to keep it for about 5 years so it will be an ongoing project car! :)

Do VRS bumpers go straight on? i've seen different shaped foglights on older models too! Any facelifts done?

What options arent worth getting?

Things to watch out for?

Is the 1.9 TDi PD engine code BBZ?

No, BBZ is 1.4 16v 100 bhp.

ALL 1.9 TDI fabias are pd100. (too late :o)

As per the above all the TDi diesels are Pumpe Duse.

Pumpe Duse - German for 'unit injector'. The technology is used in many of the VW Group's diesel engines to inject fuel at very high pressures to increase power and fuel efficiency - hence the letters PD added to their names.

My 2001 1.9 TDI engine code is ATD.

I don't know why Skoda didn't make a bigger thing about this model having PD

Im Selling mine In January mate ??

Details?

Errr sorry if it is a silly question but, if you are talking about putting on vRS bumpers and tuning etc - why not buy a vRS and give yourself an easier starting point? There are people like Devonutopia who have tuned pd100s (though in his case I would love to know just how much of the original car remains:D)

If it's going to be a continual project I'd recommend getting a VRS, then a remap. From there you'll have 160bhp (ish). After that a you can fit a FMIC, PD160, bigger turbo and uprated clutch. Should almost see you to 200BHp with another remap to take advantage of the new engine 'bling'.

Second hand VRS's aren't much more than the PD100's if you have a good look around. If it's going to be an ongoing project then in the early stages a standard VRS will cost much less to insure than a remapped pd100 with VRs bits on it which will look and act like a standard VRS.

Yeah, a mapped vRS, your talkin 170-180, so your almost there anyway, with nicer seats, suspension, etc.

See if I can get a bit more £££ together and start with a VRS! Dont want a blue one - too expensive. Or yellow. So that leaves me with Black Red or silver!I've been looking through the gallery and i've seen a few good cars about for inspiration!

would have to say if you have the modding bug then get a vrs to start with, otherwise you may end up spending much more in the long run,200bhp is about thelimit for the pd 100,jason started with the pd 100,but the car is a vrs now in all but name:thumbup:

Its going to be an ever evolving project car - need something smallish - fast & diesel! looked at VRS Fabia's when they were new - but could afford one then! But i cann afford one now! Going to have about £6000 to spend on one. But I need to sell 3 of my other cars first! MK2 Golf GTD - MK2 Scirocco Scala - Mk3 Polo G40. I'm really attached to my g40 - its going to be hard to watch that go down the road! :(
