Shortlist

Featured Replies

Which car's were on your shortlist before deciding on the Fabia?

Mine were Nissan Note, VW Polo or another Honda Jazz.

Mine was fiesta ST, Ibiza FR or Astra 150 CDTI

When I decided to look around for an Astra replacement, I bought some car mags. I was also looking at my local newspapers and I spotted an Octavia 1.6 FSi. That caused me to look at the Skoda website, I saw the Roomster and the Fabia estate and went along to have a look. They were an instant hit.

I popped along to Ford, Vauxhall and Honda - absolutely nothing appealed as much as the Skodas did. The Fords were horrible, the Vauxhalls were cramped, and Honda Jazz felt like a tiny shoebox. That left the choice of Skodas. The Roomster did appeal, but the Fabia estate had a better shaped boot for what we wanted and better visibility.

Five months ago today, I took delivery of my Fabia 3 estate and I love it. We had an injector fail in the last couple of weeks which was fixed under warranty - but the car ticks all the right boxes. My opinion of Skoda or the car hasn't waivered.

Lots. And very varied...

BMW 1-series - bit too cramped in the back

Citoen C4 - worried about quality/reliability

Honda Civic - poor visability. And the dealer didn't bother to speak to me. (Was in there for nearly 1/2 an hour and not once did any of the 3 sales people bother to ask me if they could help!)

Hyundai i30 - very poor residuals made it very expensive (if it held its value better, I would have bought one)

Kia Rio - bit cheap and dated inside

Mazda 2 - looked too cheap inside

Mazda 3 - great deal offered but then I drove it and it wasn't that great

Merc A-class - Too MPV like. And doesn't hold it's value that well for a Merc

Pug 207 hatch/SW - same worries as C4 and also no legroom in the back

Seat Leon - Didn't like the interior and the visability was horrendous

Toyota Auris - Very boring to drive. Dealer was quite aggressive and they tried to rip me off on the finance.

VW Golf - Nearly bought one but had seen the Mk6 was due soon. Dealer told me not for at least 2 years. Good job I don't trust what dealers say!

Fabia wasn't perfect at all. But was good at everything. Good ride, reasonable handling, not too noisy, quick enough, economical enough, no major worries over quality/reliability, roomy enough and was a good price with a good finance deal.

Don't regret it now. Although if I was looking again now, I would have to look at the new Honda Jazz and I still like the C4.

  • 10 months later...

Honda Jazz only - I'm an ex-Honda man. Scrapped my trusty 18 years 4 months old Civic. The new Jazz is a brilliant car, I think (apart from the ride and the poor-ish front visibility). The only problem is it failed to impress me as much as my 18+ yrs old Civic... which is inexcusable for Honda

Then I went to Skoda - Fabia was second on my list. It still didn't get close to my old Civic, but I didn't have such expectations from a Skoda ;) So, I bought the Fabia. Pricewise the difference was about £65 (in Honda favour).

Anyway, If I could buy again one of thse old Civics brand new... wouldn't hesitate at al... they don't make cars like that anymore :squint:

VW polo bluemotion, seat ibiza ecomotive, skoda fabia estate greenline

ended up with fabia2 estate 1.4tdi, seat wasn't available. vw was just a lil small, fabia appeared as large inside as my mk5 golf se. So far Wife, Father and daughter all agree it was a good choice.

Nissan Micra 1.2, Toyota Yaris 1.33, Fiesta 1.25, Polo 1.2 70bhp but all too expensive compared to Fabia with similar spec (air con, 5 doors) and Fabia has biggest boot

When I bought my first Fabia in 03 I looked at Fiesta Zetec 1.4TDCI and Ibiza 1.2. I knew I would end up with the Fabia but the others were both £1000 less.

I drew up the short list for my Mum and Dad when they were putting Mum's (Honda engined) Rover 416GSI in on scrappage. They looked at Micra (cos it's British built) Smart Diesel (cos Dad is a Mercedes man) and the Fabia. The Fabia is miles better deal than either of the others and just about the nicest little car available IMHO.

Fabia vRS!!

I looked at the Nissan Note, the Fiat Qubo and the Citroen Nemo Multispace before deciding on the Fabia estate. I went to my local Skoda dealer to test drive the Fabia, but I saw the Roomster in the showroom and it was love at first sight. It comes in September.

After 105,000 miles in my previous 1.9TDi Fabia Elegance Estate, it was a no brainer (helped by those awefully good people at DM Keiths Leeds). I tested a Honda Insight and found its total lack of acceleration dangerous and opted quickly for a Fabia 3 1.9TDi Estate having decided that the previous model was so good, practical and reliable.

We carry camping kit, bikes and a tandem on the roof so like the last one it will be worked hard.
