Gearbox problem

Featured Replies

I have Felicia 1,3 1999. and a big problem.

I have been dismantling speed cable from gearbox and that small plastic gear

fell into the hole

Now it's somewhere in the gearbox :eek:

What's the easiest way to get it out? To take the gearbox down and put it upside down? To remove oil exchange screw and see if it will come out with oil? Or something else?

I think it will be too big to drop out the oil drain hole, and either way I presume the mechanicals would stop it coming out. Is it definitely no longer visible from the top?

i reckon there's not enough space between the diff and the diff housing for it to get out anyway, so you're stuck with it unless you strip the gearbox down :D

The thing didn't came out with oil

I noticed that gearbox case consists of 2 parts: 1st ( with starter and clutch) and 2nd (with gears).

Can I dismantle these parts and open case? ( Without gears falling apart )

no hth :D

you'll need to take the end cover off first and remove the fifth gear and fifth gear syncromesh, before you can split the case iirc

I'll try to take the gearbox down and then tumble it:trampolin

I hope that the thing will fall through the hole where it entered.

Do I need some extra precaution with it? I have some DIY manual in czech and it mentions some special tool for differential housing after removing axles. But, I'm no better in czech than in english :o

yeah, if you are going to shake the gearbox you need to support the differential sun gears with something, a piece of wood or tubing through the holes (but make sure it's clean)

I removed the gearbox. Without tumbling becouse I'll take it to the the gearbox mechanic tomorrow.

i dont understand, that little plastic thing is the dummie and is supposed to be in the hole its the link between the trans sproket and the cable... and last i ckecked the hole (if is the one i think) is wide enough to to inset a needle nose plyer

It's very common mistake :o
