Unattended Door Locking Octy II

Featured Replies

I recently noticed that if I unlocked my car, but did not open any of the doors, the vehicle would secure itself by locking the doors automaticly.

Not withstanding the safety implications, Is there a way of getting the car to lock itself, if its left unlocked?

I am aware that you can set the alarm to bleep when it is set.

Thanks in advance

How would the car know if it was left or not though? You could be washing it or unloading a fair bit of stuff.

Imagine if you leave the keys on the seat for a second and then the door is shut and it locks itself.

Do you mean if you shut the doors and don't open them for say 5 mins they lock?

I think this may be covered in the manual, but I can't be bothered getting up and going down to my garage to check for you, so you'll just have to make do with what I can retrieve from my aged and imperfect memory.

If your car is locked and you then unlock it with your remote but don't actually open a door (or boot/tailgate) then the ever-so smart electronic gubbins that monitor and control security consider you have probably accidentally unlocked the car by sitting on the remote or somesuch, and as your car shouldn't really be unlocked in these circumstances than it relocks itself after a short time (1/2 to 2 minutes ?).

This can be awkward if you expected your car to remain unlocked, so it may be prudent to open and shut a door after unlocking so it remains unlocked if that is what you intend.

"Imagine if you leave the keys on the seat for a second and then the door is shut and it locks itself." I don't think this can happen unless you locked it before closing the door. I am paranoid about checking whether I have my keys on me before closing the tailgate if my wagon was locked before I opened the boot.

I agree with the above, IMHO the tailgate button on the remote should not be available.

The reason for my question, is that I'm never sure that I have locked my pride and joy, so it is not unsusual to see me in the street at 2am (in my under bucks) checking the car.

As yet I have never found it unlocked. More by luck than judgement!!!

Can you not just blip it from inside and see how many flashes it does?

Just remote lock it (again). It seems you can lock it as many times as you feel necessary and as far as I can see everything remains locked.

Now I'm beginning to think that number 45 is the real problem and locking the car the excuse.:D:rofl:

IIRC if you lock it twice it disables the interior monitoring of the alarm, so if Mr scumbag breaks a window etc. the alarm won't sound.

Edit: Locking it twice also disables the deadlocks.

Thats my cover blown Doh!

Click unlock, click lock again. Gets the job done, the alarm is on, the deadlocks are on.

You can also get a 2nd confirmation by watching the interior lights turn on and fade out as you do it.

O/T: For anybody curious how to lock one's keys in the Octi do this: Roll down a window far enough to chuck the remote through but not actually enough to reach inside.

Click either remote button (lock, unlock, doesn't matter), throw key inside through the open window and don't open the door for 30 secs. Ta daa.

Hmmm how do you know this works?

Passive locking.

As described, but when the car passive locks it doesnt set the alarm.

A door open signal will cancel the operation. But be careful about putting the keys in the ignition. Until you have turned the key in the lock the s contact in the lock isn't activated. So if you just pop the keys in and dont turn the car doesn't know they are in there.

This can lead to locking the keys in the car if your not careful.

Oh btw a really funny thing to do if you happen to work in a garage and want to wind a mate up is as follows.

Mate gets in a car to work on, goes out of the workshop for a pi55/get parts whatever. Run over to the car, take the keys out of the ignition. Swap the key tag over to a dummy/spare key, put it back in the ignition and lock the car. The hide somewhere. Technician panics when he comes back to the car and realises the keys are locked in. Leave him/her to sweat for a little while then walk over, correct keys in pocket. Ask him/her what the matter is, then say no problem I can sort that. Tap the door just below the lock with one hand whilst blipping the remote in your pocket with the other. Hey presto door opens, you look the mutts nuts and he/she is very confused.

Top one on a newbie that one :)

Trial&error with the spare in the back pocket until the final recipe.

I locked SWMBO in my clifford alarmed car at the services while I queued for KFC once.

She didnt seem that happy that I left her protected and secure for some reason.

Opps showing my age again :(

Passive locking.

As described, but when the car passive locks it doesnt set the alarm.

I was gonna ask what happens if you open just the boot with centre key fob button (does it re-arm the alarm).

Then decided to try the Passive locking thing, from upstairs I let the windows down on the car and re-locked it, I went down stuck my hand in the window (alarm went off). So pressed open button on fob, but didn't open the car door. The car locked itself, then after 30secs or so stuck my hand in the window and the alarm went off again.

So does that mean the car does re-arm or just I am getting it mixed up?

If you don't open a door in 30 secs it does whatever it would do when you press the lock button (lock, turn on alarm, standby with rain closure on cars with rain sensor).

If you don't open a door in 30 secs it does whatever it would do when you press the lock button (lock, turn on alarm, standby with rain closure on cars with rain sensor).

Is that Passive Locking then, thats the was I assumed it worked?

Its not that I was doubting Lummox just was a bit worried that the car wouldn't re-arm alarm if it re-locked on me.
