Spax Adjustables

Featured Replies

Hi guys

just wondering if anyone has experience with Spax adjustable shocks (not coil overs)???

Thanks

It's been a while since, but they do work (the adjustable damping rate bit). Just take note you've only got one adjustment which I think increases bump and rebound together.

Thanks Ken, i recieved a special price on them so i snapped them up ($500 NZ Dollars inc GST) for a set of 4, i dont think i can complain with that! The front struts have 10 rebound adjustments and the rear have 28 adjustments which affect bump and rebound, i shall get them fitted up and see how the car behaves, my standard front shocks arnt leaking but have done 90,000km on our dodgy kiwi roads and are feeling a bit weak.

Bargain I think. I'd have them again for a car that ran separate springs and dampers like the Opel Ascona B (RWD) I had them on, or even for something that uses them co-axial but not as struts (no experience of them in strut bodies).

In fact they're even a choice for rally and fast road Estelle/Rapids from back in the day. I have 3 tuning articles suggesting them as an option, with Bilstein or Sachs units as the alternatives.

As a owner of an old 120 aswell i think ill look at getting a set for that too as they are one of the only shock companies to still list estelle/rapids, and the fact my 120 is soon to be breathing a bit of fire with the help of a favorit 1.3 engine, efi (megasquirt) and a turbo it will need some help in the shock dept!

Actually Bilstein never did Estelle dampers; What the Skoda works team did was use Volvo 140 fronts and SAAB 900 Combi rears.

Got the shocks fitted over the weekend, fronts being a little tricky, had to give the paint a light sand to help it slide into the hub carrier (tho im sure the special tool would work beter than a allen key) completly transformed the drive, smoother is the first thing i noted, and the car definantly stays alot flatter during cornering, i have the fronts in the 3rd adjustment up and the rears on about 6 clicks, will fiddle with the adjustments over the next few weeks and see what i like the best, but as it is i am very happy with them :D

Do you need a special cert for your WOF with the adjustables? Or is that just if the height is adjustable?

dont need a special cert for these, only need a cert if you go for a coil over setup, in which case you get a cert plate which has a vehicle height +/- 5% i think, youll know our nz roads are pretty crappy so dont want a car too low around here!, o i did get a price on the koni adjustable's aswell rob, theyre cheaper than the fsd kit! and also carried in stock in auckland

Yeah my car has a ground clearance of just over 10cm according to the manual. Is yours a vRS as well?

After all I've read about the FSD's I really fancy getting a set when finances allow. That said, how much were the Koni adjustables?
