lowering coilovers over 40mm

Featured Replies

i just bought a set of coilovers but iv heard i need droplinks to lower more than 40mm. is this corrcct and where can i get them? Im also unsure as to how low you can go? iv got the standard 16" vrs rims so how low can you put the coilovers on the standard wheel. i want to go as low as i can. even if it does scrape a few ramps lol:D im only ever on main roads and hardly ever near ramps. i try to steer away from back roads that arnt well tarmaced so i dont get too many stone chips. so ramps and rough roads dont really effect me

you need shortened droplinks or your driveshafts will sit on your anti roll bar.

you can go all the way down, i wouldnt recommend it tho.

you'll hear things about low sumps etc but if you go all the way the be wary of bumps in the road or you will hit the tarmac with your subframe.

do you know were abouts you can get them? how far would you reccomend going? is the 40mm about right or do you need to go more? you car looked mint when it was slammed

My old girl was lowerd 40 mm on coils......looked great in my eyes and handled perfect.....never cought once either ! never scraped etc i think if you go too low you will proberly start with problems

It just depends what kit you get.

The kit i got AP's, dont need drop links, im just running standard links.

My mate put a set, cant remember what make they were, on his Ibiza FR (same platform) without drop links and he had major issues so had to change to smaller links.

Im running approx -75mm

I don't run an undertray as it got pretty mauled on speed bumps.

Subframe catches aswell as KTP said.

It is quite impractical some times but that doesn't bother me really.

Its up to you, for handeling i'd say -50, lower than that aint good.

I had a play with the ride height and found once i got lower than 50mm on my AP's the springs were moving a little and causing slight, what felt like, roll.

But if you want it slammed, then slam it.

thanks for that reply mate really appreciate it. do you have a pic of your car anywere. would be really interesed to see it before i get mine fitted

thats mine as low as she could go on OEM wheels

Adjusters out on the rear and all the way down on the front, shorter links fitted too :)

15-20mm higher and would look the shizzle

I had mine dropped on Weitec coilovers using standard ARB droplinks but beware that I found it wasn't the anti roll bar that caught on the driveshaft but on the drivers side it was the bottom part of the subframe that caught on it. It was low though.

I have had no problems with mine on weitecs, it is all the way at the back and 1/2 at the front, i think any lower at the front would be bad news for the undertray.

Thanks
