basically it bolts onto the back of the gearbox then attaches to the subframe, it has a normal voided rubber bush. the idea is to fabricate something a little more heavy duty and use a harder bushing with no voids in..

i've already put you name down for one ed

And you find nylon too hard as you mentioned in other thread?

yes a few, maybe 8 or so after the prototype and you'l be able to choose the colour /finish. i can't decide wether is should be made of steel or aluminium, the oe mount is make from 4mm steel plate which has been pressed into shape.

Good job!

Keep us posted!

For the uprated weight reducing style were all looking for ally must be the way to go just so long as its braced to take the stresses in the right places, Put me down for one cheers:thumbup:

ok, although i'm not just going to blindly make them and send them out to people, i need to do a bit of road testing on it first

Hope i didn't offend Teflon I know you wouyldn't just send out anything, sorry if i did

By the way would still like one once your done if you do produce any:D I just don't have any access to any any engineering or tooling facilities and it takes guys like you to help keep us intrested

:rubchin: hmmm, i need to find some hard core mentalist to test a prototype out:O

ive never looked under the bonnet of a felly, would this fit the mounts of a fav?

im due some mount after the tw*ts at A1 clutches in tipton screwed up mine.

  • 2 weeks later...

I updated my Fellys rear engine mount last week. As you know the car is a rally car under construction and in last practising session exhaust manifold started to rattle when hitting aluminium bottom shield. The reason was engine rear mount in poor shape and because it is under high stress all the time in rally use I decided to replace it by something stronger.

First was bigger nylon bush (diam. 56 mm) worked and in the center they got 32 mm hole. Then I bought 60mm long cylinder bushing with rubber between two steel cylinders. That was bedded inside the nylon ring and also rear part of engine mount connected to subframe got new bushing.

After 250 km testing last weekend it seems to work and wild moving of engine stops finally when I will work also other mountings same way, parts are ready and just waiting :). I think that amount of rubber prevents metallic mounting forks to stress to much and breaking. Still mount is very steady now.

If someone is interested about measures of those parts, those nylong rings diameters are 56 mm for the rear mount, 66 mm for the upper gearbox mount and 76 for the right side upper mount. Deep is 40 mm for first two and 45 mm for the biggest. Inner cylinder (for the bolt) of bushings should be ca. 60 mm long for every mounts. The rearest steel/rubber bushing should be 30 mm dia and 34 mm long.

HOX! I haven´t set up two upper mounts yet so I am not sure diameters of nylons if they are perfect. 56mm nylon ring for rear mount was more likely a bit loose than too tight. However, nylon has chracteristic to absorb some water so I think that bushing is sooner or later tight...

But when I have installed rest of the parts, I will tell here how it went.
