Oil now $80 a barrel

Featured Replies

Tesco 99 for 109.9p the other day. I'm with Rob (Octygone) on the pricing. The way it is good - those that have super thirsty 4x4's or are doing starship miles every year simply pay for what they use. I don't do mega mileages so I'd be hacked off if I was subsidising the aforementioned.

The "pay as you go" via fuel duty makes sense... but then we all pay road tax regardless of how many miles we go :(

road tax should be abolished, then you pay via the pumps. Instead of a tax disc you should get an insurance disc from your insurer or mot station to show when the car was mot'd (or expires)+when your insurance started/is to expire.

Checked out the Shell garage at Didcot, oxon tonight 106.9 unleaded and 113.9 vpower unleaded. 18p more and we be back to may 07 prices.

The government don't need to touch the prices. The fuel companies are ripping people off.

I had a very interesting conversation with a guy that trades oil on the markets and they thought that the prices at the pump were well over what they should be based on prices now.

I agree entirely.

Oil and tax are at the same levels as they were months ago and we are now paying at least 12p a litre too much

Still £1.17 for Diesel at my local Shel in Faversham.

£1.17-£1.22 around here.

Absolute p*ss take.

Diesel at the shell garage between watford and ricky was 113.9 this morning, normal UL was 103.9 , so here at least the price is dropping.

Went to London yesterday by coach.

Passed a Shell station in bolton at about 5am

Diesel was 116.9 and Unleaded 105.9

On the way back about 9pm passed the same station

Diesel 114.9 and Unleaded 103.9

Widely 107/118 UL/diesel West Sussex coast at the moment - does actually seem to be going down quite quickly!

Bearing in mind the price of oil has halved and the dollar is hardly any stronger against the pound it should have come down a lot more than it has so far.

I would think it's a very steep curve on the way up and a very shallow curve on the way down if you were to plot fuel price changes.

The pound has fallen 15% against the dollar since the summer so that has to be factored into the prices.

It probably still means that prices haven't come down as much as they should though :thumbdwn:

So as I said hardly fallen.

Oil price has dropped 50%, and compared to that 15% is relatively little.

If you take that derv was £1.40 at it's height then it should now be 70ppl based on the oil price drop alone.

Factor in the change in exchange rate and you're talking 82.4ppl.

So right now it's a veritable bargain....... NOT!

Well the 50 duty is still there no matter what.

At 95p a litre you had 50p duty , 14p VAT and 31p fuel - sept 07

At 135p a litre you had 50p duty , 20p duty and 65p fuel - june 08

At 115p a litre we have 50p duty , 17p duty and 48p fuel - oct 08

Oil has dropped 50% from the peak so the 65p fuel portion should have fallen back to thirty something pence and we should be paying around a pound a litre for diesel or less

True I'd not taken the tax into account as a fixed lump, but still 20p over what we should not be paying.

Lowest price I've spotted is 102.9p/l at Tesco, Seacroft, Leeds. Looks like the price wars are on.

Spotted diesel at 113.9 today in Glasgow
