Kilometers you get on a full gas tank - 1.8T

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

I have a 2002 Octavia L&K 1.8T. Every time I full my gas tank I reset my odometer and I always get 400 kilometers. From some time ago I am just getting 300 Kilometers:eek:

My car only have 41,000 kilometers. I just use it to go from my home to the train station and then back to my home. I drive it the same, I am not acelerating it or running fast or kicking the turbo.........Just driving it normally.

Every maintenance is do it at the Skoda dealer every 5,000 Kilometers. I use 0W-30 Castrol Synthetic oil.

Car is running perfect, acelerated perfect but I really dont undertand why my mileage has drecresed:confused:

Do you recomend me to use a fuel injection cleaner? You know does that you poor on your gas tank.

What you recomend me to check.

THX,

Isaac

I have a remapped vRS 1.8t and it usually does about 500km on a tank, 400 if it's all short trips and up to 700 on a long run.

How far is your drive to the train station?

Its around 15 to 20 minutes drive. I was getting 400Km doing the same trip and now I jus getting 300Km:(

Could it be possible that the gasoline station is not giving me 100% gasoline? Maybe they mixed with water...........Who knows. But I take different gasoline from diference gas station and still getting 300Km.

Have you checked all your tyre pressures? Try running with higher pressures, and see what happens.

What about the air filter, when was the last time it was changed/cleaned?

Or has the weather changed since your 400km runs? Changes in ambient temperature and humidity do have an effect.

I'm with Bodge on this one; check the tyre pressures, and when the air filter was last changed before anything else.

Also, has anythign changed on your commute? Maybe a couple of traffic lights that take you a cycle longer than they used to to get though?

Belived or not, I also was thinking on checking the airfilter. I am pretty sure the dealer put a new filter at the 35,000 service but I going to check the invoice since I alway save all the cars papers and I will check the filter myself:-)

Tires presure is 35lbs. (205/55/16)

Let see what I found about the filter.

I run mine at 32 front, 34 rear, 2 PSI up on recommended (Elegance TDi running 205/55R16Ws on VAG alloys).

Also just note that air flow sensors and oxygen sensors can cause high fuel consumption if theyre not opperating 100% :) not sure if you lot have air flow sensor cleaner over there, but that can work a treat sometimes

I have been getting 650km per tank pretty consistantly over the 71k miles I have had the car (Octavia RS 1.8T).

I tend to change my air filter at every 10k mile service. You can usually see an extra couple of mpg with new filters.

My vRS gets anywhere from 320-380 miles on a full tank of mostly town driving.

Could be the choke system as the weather is now getting cooler. Especially if you only do short journeys. The fuel to air ratio changes depending on air intake temperature. I can only dream of getting 400km out of my 250 hp Mk1 octy, I get about 200miles (which i think is 300km) to the tank full.

I'm not sure temperature varies that much through the year in Panama?

Are any fault codes logged? With consumption up a third I would expect you to notice a difference.

Has this happened over several tanks or just the one? I am tempted to think that you have reset the trip. Have you disconnected the convenience unit or battery?

There isn't a choke as such. The ECU changes the injection timing/duration. Obviously, the MAF has a big effect, but even if it thought it was -30degC, I'm not sure if it would use that much extra.

Maybe you have a fuel leak - that would explain why you don't notice any difference

I will have to take the car to the dealer to check for faul codes

Yes, several tanks:( I am the only one that drive the car, I have not reset the trip computer, neither discoonect anything.

This car is using gasoline like a V8..............I am pretty sure that on this tank I will get less than 300Km.

I check yesterday the 35,000Km Service invoice and the dealer changed the air filter.
