Heated seats - why?

Featured Replies

Just sorted out a Fabia for my Dad. Whilst in the showroom the salesman talked through the features to him. He said that it had heated seats - well at that dad looked shocked and asked me what they were for. I did not know, but I suggested that perhaps it was used for warming female workers on icy mornings who's uniform utilises a short dress. Well the salesman laughed:rofl::confused: at this (wrong?), but Dad and I are still stumped at what situation or type of person warrants or uses this 'feature'. Dad is still grumbling about it and I just said "well turn them off". If I could let him know why they are installed it may help him - and hopefully cut the grumbling!

Cheers, TH

PS. The previous owner was male.

My dad has them in his shogun and we never turn them on cos it gives you a sweaty crack.

Members of my girlfriends' family say that leather seats in the winter are "horrible and cold" to sit on. I in fact quite like it :D

Well this is what my Dad said in as many words (not to the salesman though:rolleyes:). Cooled seats I can understand - like the perforated ones in Saab's, but heated? just asking for nasty niffs...:P

scotch eggs + heated seats + air on recirc = hiroshima II

They are excellent. I've had 3 cars with them and thing they are ace. They warm the seat up making it very cosy. They don't get hot, you won't get sweaty! Even when it wasn't cold out I used to have them on a low setting.

Very good for a bad back too.

They get warmth into your core rather than just having a fan blowing on your face, and in the case of the Fabia vRS and diesel engines, they get warm quicker than the heater. :)

I agree with Tom_vRS that they are good, much nicer feeling being warmed to the core than with hot air blown into your face. My dads accord has heated leather seats and the bottom and backs heat up and its not uncomfortable in the slightest.

If you have ever used a heated seat at 4AM in January at minus -5C (UK) or lower (-23C eeeek Norway, vasaline on the door rubbers and a lighter to warm the key or you aint going no where. BMW used to do heated door locks too and independant fuel burning heaters to warm the engine coolant so you can start it!) you will know why they are there.

I agree with Tom excellent bit of kit to have. My old Saab 900 (the original shape) the seats would only come on below a certain temperature and then go off once operating temperature was reached.

I have only used the heated seats in the UK a few times but a nice extra to have.

Had the ones in my mates Audi 'used on me' at full heat - fell asleep on the M6 when we were going south. Woke up with a really odd, warm feeling between my legs. Must admit that in the few seconds it took me to wake up I seriously thought I'd had an accident!

I had them in my previous car:thumbup:

as said very good if like me you have had a back problem:)

Good for older people with limited mobility, like my dad.

Makes you feel like you've shat yourself. :o

My dad had them in is old passat, they were lovely in the winter

I had an Elegance (as ya know).. The heated seats get warm very quickly, much quicker than the blower and as your waiting for the windows to de-mist/ice they go along way to stopping your upper body shivering while trying to drive off!.. when doing early morning starts in winter it's almost like climbing back into bed!

I specced them in the fabia, fantastic on cold mornings at 3 am before the engine warms up :)

No short skirt but I do wear shorts hth

There was an article I read related to heated seats and impotency.

But they said that about mobiles too.......

That's correct, as far as I'm aware sperm cells, or the parts of us that make the sperm cells, much prefer cooler temperatures, hence the position "away from the body" in comparison to the rest of us :)

Having hot baths etc isn't recommended if you're trying for a baby, I read :) I can't imagine sitting on a toaster all the way to work does you much good.

:+1:

Also fantastic for the game of "Look at that!" whereby you point at something out of their side window and when your passenger looks round to see what all the fuss is about, you quickly and quietly pop their heated seat on full blast.

Than just wait a wile and watch them squirm!! Brilliant if you're immature! (which luckily, I am!)

I do this before people get in! Quite funny 10 mins in to journey when they say their bum is burning!!

But as all have said i've never had them until this Polo... absolutly great feature just to have on 1 or 2 setting when cold just takes the edge off.

Just a note to all with heated seats... try not to kneel on the seat £££ to repair when matt is broken through direct pressure.

Mine has heated seats and I really couldn't be without them. As others have said they heat up instantly and mine feel like the back is heated aswell as the actual bum bit! On a freezing cold morning, or at night, going to or from work it makes me feel all warm inside. :)

Ive got them in my Fabia, go down well with the ladies ;)

Also good in the cold winter mornings, whack it on 5 and bobs your uncle :thumbup:

Been there, done that

I loved them in my Fabia, and miss them in my vRS :(

ive got them im my fabia 2 they r brilliant for cold mornings or cold nights coz the car doesnt warm up quick the seats r there nearly instantly so its nice to have them on and turn the blower off till the car warms up them i just turn them down! quite good for my lower back to as i usually get alot of pain.

ALSO good for a practical joke on the passanger/driver (which ever ur not) wack it on 5 and wait to c them moving about as it gets warm :)

Yes, the base and the backs of the seats are both heated. :)
