vRS starting problem

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have a few probs with the car and its only on 25k so will take it back to skoda for some warrenty work but need to book time off work so I thought I'd voice my probs here to see if any1 else could givme peace of mind that my car isn't Fooked,

1. Starting problem - I left for work one day week b4 last, went to the petrol station to fill up (with Diesel) went to the kiosk paid and jumped back into the car, turned the key as normal and wouldn't start, no turn noise at all part from the fuel pump making that funny squelching noise, lol!

Tried starting it about 7 or 8 times, and nothing, checked the key was ok for the transponder chip, everything fine there, tried a couple more times then she fired up!

I mean whats all that about? Any1 else had this problem?

Its done it a couple of times this week but I'm not doing anything different to make it start, so any ideas there would be great!

2. Squeeking noise coming from the engine - I don't know if the 2 probs are related but I did put something on briskoda b4 about this, although now it has got worse.

There is a high pitched noise coming from the engine on decelaration which is pretty constant, anything from 3k down to 1.5k rpm almost sounds like brakes squealing but its not the brakes!

Also whilst all thats going on, there is another squealing noise when accelarating but only at full boost, someone had made a comment on here before telling me about turbo rpm etc, its a high pitched sound like a turbo whistle but a lot louder upon full boost! I know its hard to comment when you haven't heard it but I will try and get a sound recording of it later!

I think thats about it apart from the rear de-mist button that stays depressed, but I'll get skoda to look at that!

If anyone is reading this and thinking of buying a Fabia vRS or any skoda for that matter, I would just like to say don't let this thread put you off, they are great cars to live with and worth every penny!

I don't want to come across all negative about it, as I still love it to pieces and there are so many good bits about the car which are still there, its just these niggley little faults which you can get with any cars these days (which I hope are covered under warrenty) are getting me down a little!

Anyway, think I may have said too much now, hopefully someone will reply with some views, so thanking you in advance

Re starting, there should be a thin wire going onto the end of the starter motor (solenoid) check make sure this isn`t fraid or snapped. Seems to be a common fault as most mechanics pull the battery cover to one side thereby straining this particular wire. AA men seem to know all about it.

I have the rear demist button stick too. Just keep poking

Thanks for the reply but would this cause intermitant starting? I'll have a look though!

Can't help with the first two, but I had all sorts of trouble with SWMBO's demister button when reassembling the dash on her car [clicky] - in the end, I discovered that it was one of the lugs that holds the front plate of the stereo onto the casing. It had mis-shapen slightly, and so stuck up a bit and caught on the bottom of the switch. A bit of juggling, and all was well. If you have an aftermarket stereo, something similar might have happened with the fascia adaptor...

Just had a thought, could the whistling sound come from leaking intercooler hose??

  • 3 weeks later...

I just thought I'd update this, Spoke to a reliable source this morning and they said the starting problem could be something to do with the coolant warning sensor, something about if its too cold it will not turn over the engine! Can anyone confirm this??

Thanks for the replys guys, I haven't had a chance to get to the dealers yet, so thought i'd check here 1st
