Winter Wheels!

Featured Replies

I was gunna post on Stuart's post but didn't wanna be a post-jacker...

I just wondered, with quite a few owners having "winter wheels" is the muck that gets on ya wheels over winter actually bad for them, worse than summer??

I mean is it corrosive or damaging if left, like brake dust is?

I have two sets of vRS wheels (my car came with two).. I naturally split the sets and made one perfect set and one scuffed set that i'm shortly to sell, but should I put the scuffed ones on over winter or as long as I clean the perect ones as I would normally through summer, will they look just as good after winter as they did before?

Or is the above completely pointless as the point is to just put wheels on that are easier to clean as they'll get so much filthier over the next season? So like for like is silly? This is what Stuart has done (easier to clean wheels, understandable as his summer wheels, fantastic as they are, look like a pig to clean)... but i just wondered the above as well..

Thanks

Rob.

winter wheels are usually what someone would have if their main set of wheels are polished or have a finish that requires care to be taken, usually.

its to try avoid the salt from gritters and everything else thats pretty harsh for the finish.

Gottcha! So winter is actually more damaging on wheels!

Hmmmmm.. 4 Spares with Superb trims? ;-)

yeah as theres a lot more salt kicking around, i think mine will have to come off due aswell, mines arent laquered or protected in any way.

Protect alloys, everyone's a winner.

Think this stems for the American fascination for Winters - where, in some parts, they are more a neccessity not so for the alloys, but getting some serious winter rubber on. Now it's a trend. As long as you wash your car regularly, shouldn't be a problem.
