Low fuel warning

Featured Replies

Just out of curiosity, my low fuel warning comes on exactly at the start of the red line, I would have thought it would have come on at the reserve letter or very near to that.

How many liters are left from the start of the red line to empty????

The book says the tank is 55 liters, of witch 7 in reserve so a rough idea would be helpful

I think that the light comes on once the trip computer reckons the the fuel remaining will take you 50 miles. If it is the case, then the amount left can vary, depending on how you've been driving recently. Or it may just be coincidence. (7 litres for 50km does sound about OK)

it comes on at 50 miles (computer display) but i dont really trust that. i do know however you can get about 50 miles out of it careful driving when it reaches 0. basically just think you have 1 gallon left when you reach 0 miles.

My old mk I came on at 50 miles left in tank, my mk II always comes on at 70 miles left in the tank.

IIRC the red line on the fuel gauge is the start of the reserve. The refuel warning is based on remaining fuel (7 litres of thereabouts) and not the range.

If I run down to '0' miles on the range and then some I can get almost 56 litres in the tank +filler neck.

And the reserve range will vary with driving style, I've had it as low as 25 miles and as high as 80 miles from a TDI with a standard fuel tank.

Mine bleeps and the low fuel light comes on when the range hits 65 miles....

Oops, just read where this thread was located (Octavia II) - I drive a Fabia :o

So ignore the previous thread..

Easily done, i've clicked on Fabia II thinking it was Octavia II on a few occasions now

I dont have maxi dot to help judge sadly but that gives me some insight that it could be 50 miles approx

Thanks to all

Low fuel warning/beep at 50 -65 miles for me; earlier if going up a steep hill.

I've not had the bottle to run it to less than 0 but got down to 0 miles last night; filled to the brim and got about 54 litres of fuel in, so was pretty low!

I see you have the classic version, which I guess is not fitted with the trip computer. The low fuel warning light & beep come on at 70 miles left in tank on mine, so if you reckon on 50 miles left you should be OK.

FWIW the low fuel warning light doesn't come on at a specific 'miles to go' reading, it comes on when the computer reckons you have 7 litres left in the tank so the mileage left will vary depending on use...

I've had the bleep/symbol come on at 75 miles to go (probably when I've been driving like a granny) and also at 40 miles (when caning it) ;)

oh, and I've driven it for 10 miles after getting to the ZERO mles to go reading but wouldn't want to go much further than that :D

Easily get 50 miles out of it once the light comes on (normal driving). I've done it may of times.

I got to zero once when I just went past Clacket Lane services, filled up at Pease Pottage services

Stuck to about 50mph +everything possible turned off all the way there mind

If you use VCDS you can actually see how many litres the car thinks it has left in the tank so it's certainly quantity that governs the fuel light coming on.

I found mine to go off at about 5-7 liters fuel remaining. If I'm traveling outside town I get about 80-110 kms left when the light's on.

Driving round town, only about 60 kms or so, but the gauge is roughly in the same position when the light comes on.

Not sure how exact those guesstimates are, I'm in the first reputable petrol station after the light comes on. In winters I always keep at least a half tank full.

I had my fuel light and chime go off last night and the computer said 75 miles left.Probally not accurate

Why not?

You have a 1.9TDI which is more economical than the 2.0TDI so 75 miles is very plausible.

I have run mine down to zero but have never managed to get more than 50 litres in

Not disputing that just wondering how accurate that reading is
