vRS comfort

Featured Replies

Contemplating what might make my vRS more comfy. The ride is a bit hard sometimes on todays bad roads. I am contemplating:

1. Narrower whels and taller tyres - like on the 1.2 model. Would they fit or make a difference? I don't rush or take corners fast, so any loss of grip is not a problem.

2. Anti-roll bars (front or rear).

3. Upgraded springs.

4. Engine mounts?

Any other thoughts or ideas welcome. If it can't be done then I will not persue it.

Koni FSD dampers should help out, and changing to a 195-50-16 tyre

I'd beware of narrower tyres, 'cos they're pretty understeer-y as they are. A higher-profile tyre will help, although you will have to watch your speed more carefully as 50-profile tyres pretty much remove the "error" in the speedo...

Yeah, it's strange, i just fitted some koni springs and dampers to mine expecting it to be really hard and crash over the bumps but the dampers are great and take the bumps very well. If anything its a smoother ride as your not boucing as much as the standard suspension.

When you say "Comfy" what exacty do you mean?

Given the sporting nature of the car you have to accept some compromise, reducing handling/grip potential in car whose chassis is marginal as it is IMHO is not a good a good idea

Id focus on improving damping either fsd s which are claimed to do this or koni adjustables which you can tune to your own desires

Perhaps you might better trade to a less sporty more comfort orientated model- not being facetious my view is the VRs engine in an unsuitable chassiss would be a pretty lethal combination

and one your insurance company isnt going to care for either

Thank you for the replies.

The dampers/springs sound a good idea. Is the ride hieght the same as standard? I don't want lower if I can avoid it.

Concerning comfy, I really mean a little less hard. The vRS is really good on smooth roads, but over the craters and crags that are Hertfordshires 'road network' it gets a bit jiggly. Not the car's fault.

Dad's 1.4 petrol model seems easier going on such surfaces - and I am hoping to get my Fabia to run in a similar fashion.

It's pretty pointless really. Bit like asking for a kettle that doesn't give off steam. The vRS rides more firmly than other models because it has stiffer suspension. That's the compromise, as Lewiscypher stated, you gain handling, you lose comfort. But saying that, there isn't much that's more uncomfortable than a softly sprung car that leans like an old shack along a country lane. Got to agree though, the roads are C%&p which really doesn't help.

I'd like to think the dampers were at fault as the car rolls around so much and is not that sporty. Why do people think it has hard suspension?

It's strange really something is not quite right with the standard setup.

If it was sporty and stiff and handled well then i'd understand the bad ride over uneven surfaces but it's not!

Koni FSD's - I had the same bugbears, and also lived in Hemel so know EXACTLY how bad the roads are. The FSD's on standard springs will iron out the ruts and potholes like you couldn't believe, and not make much/any difference to ride height (if anything mine rode higher though that's a bone of contention on here ;)). Not cheap, but the best thing you can do for ride comfort.

Fit FSD dampers, without one shadow of a doubt. It will improve the overall feel and grip as well. So you'll gain in comfort and when progressing. It's a win-win; I guarantee it :)

Fitting them won't reduce your ride height either, if you're keeping with std springs. In your case, there'd be no need to swap springs.

Brilliant - FSD dampers it is. Thanks for that. Can I be so cheeky as to ask where the best place to get them is? A Briskoda supporting dealer would be good too.

Yeah, i like it more each time i drive it. With getting that much done in a oner it was a bit to soke up but i love it. Totally transformed the car. Service and communication from your fella was second to none.

Koni FSDs for definite, especially if you want to keep standard springs :)

Koni FSD dampers should help out, and changing to a 195-50-16 tyre

So a narrower tyre with about the same profile, how is that going to help?
