OEM Bluetooth and voice commands

Featured Replies

In my Octavia 2 I have OEM Bluetooth, the Stream radio, but not the multifunctional steering wheel. I had the dealer remove the original phonesupport, since there is no Cullmann holder to fit my phone (HTC Touch Diamond). I installed a Carcomm holder instead.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to activate the voicecommands without the multifunctional steering wheel. I read in another thread that it is possible to have the mute button of the multifunctional steering activate the voice commands, changing a setting in the VAG-com. Would a small button on the dash, connected to the CAN do the trick, or am I thinking to simple?

If you have the Cullmanholder there is a button there to activate voice commands, so it should be possible to activate somthing there. Perhaps too complicated electronics involved.

Has anyone tried something in this direction?

The MFSW brings with it another steering column computer that can understand those buttons and act accordingly.

Thats the most expensive bit of the retrofit, so might as well buy the wheel too then.

I also thought of this, the button on the MFSW is just a switch so in theory any switch would do connected to the right place and enabled on VAGCOM would do.

I have a Bury CC9060 car kit in my freelander that has a touch screen and voice activation, the later I so so miss having on the Skoda OEM. But, I dont like the styling of the MFSW, much prefer my current 3 spoke vRS steering wheel, Grrrrrrr

The button on the MSFW is just a switch yes, but when you press it its like pressing a button on a computer keyboard. The button tells the steering controller what computer data to send to the ECU which in turn sends the request to the bluetooth unit in data format, its not a straight on/off switch.

But what about the original phoneconsole. There is some electronics in there, and the phonespecific holder which clicks on to it has the ptt- button. I keep thinking the point would be to find out which pins to connect to a switch and we're there.

The phoneconsol has 2 wires, 1 is an antenna and the other has a plug. I am not sure but I guess this goes straight to the CAN-bus or quadlock (I didn't disconnect it myself).

A switch in the row of 5 beneath the climate control would make it very neat and me very happy.

Anyone got any further with this idea? Been thinking about something similar myself.

I would have thought a Golf GTi MkV MFSW would fit the vRS, although you'd have to put up with a VW badge staring at you unless the skoda steering wheel cover can be fitted.
