Xenon Lights again!!.....

Featured Replies

Just out of interest really, has anyone seen or used the new HID bulb offered by Hids4U? Its got a shield or something over the bulb to stop glare. It 'says' it will work better with reflector headlights, maybe it will stop glare but then I imagine the cut off will be rather sharp at the top of the beam, possibly giving poor beam distance. What do you guys/girls think?

hids4U?

personally i seem to have trouble trusting anything that has "4u" in its name, but then thats probably things like phones4u and injury lawyers 4u that have done that to me! lol!!!!

got a link, ive got HIDS in my lights and although ive never had a problem blinding people, i'd be interested to see if this new development helps

Ive heard good things about Hids4U, even if the name is a bit dodgy! Very helpful, and they are quality kits.

It mentions that these are not for use with projectors, so purely for use with reflectors. I would like to see some sort of pictures or review of these, and if the new bulb really does stop glare.

Anti glare or not, doesn't make them legal.

maybe not, but if people want to uprate their lights at night, and this helps, why stop them? the lights are only seen as illegal as for the amount of poor quality setups and badly adjusted headlights imoa. ive got a set, and have had them setup properly. ive never been flashed, had problems with the police, nor failed a mot. they give out the proper pattern and increase my lights output.

in fact ive been flashed more times and had more complaints about my standard octy lights then my hids in my older car!

if these lights do improve the situation, then i'll be having a set for sure :)

Wait for it Wait for it:rolleyes::rolleyes:

There will be a lonnnnnnng post in a bit about the legalities of retro fitting HID.:P:rolleyes:

I have fitted a HID4U kit to my vRS and have been stopped by the police who checked everything on the car and they never batted an eyelid about the lights not having washers.

The only time i can see it being a problem is if you get an "anal" MOT tester. in which case ill put normal bulbs back in and replace the kit after the test as it takes about 20 mins to swap over.

I can vouch for HIDS4U.

I had one of their kits in an X-trail and then a Navara. With all the stuff about legalities I did eventually take them out.

But, I had a bulb failure and a ballast failure (probably due to been taken out the cars a couple of times when I was unsure of the legalities etc) and they were relplaced with no quible from Chris (I think) from HIDS4U. Good company to deal with, better than the usual rubbish from flea-bay.

I think a little grey area exists in many peoples opinions as the HID kits seem to operate really well in projector headlamp units as the beam is projected out through a fixed lense. Put a candle behind the projector and you would get the same beam pattern.

I am a member of a landrover forum and post to say not to bother with HID kits but all landrovers are reflector style lamps and not projectors. Here, many Skoda's are projectors and the beam may well be acceptable and same as the original halogen.

Only the newer ones - the majority on the forum have reflector lenses sush as MK1 fabia, Octavia.

This again? They're illegal for use on the road, pure and simple.

But then... so are various types of pressed plate, nitrous oxide injection kits, window tints, and speeding, but that doesn't stop them being discussed or done! :sofahide:

Very good point - discussing the same topics again and again is getting boring!!

i dont think ive actually come across a ch@v car with these on that doesnt dazzle. they not set up correctly and are not designed for the lights they go in. ch@v racers only buy them to try and make their cars look cool and it wouldnt suprise me before long if everyone with xenons and hid kits are all pulled in by the police to check to see if they legal or not.

One thing the kits dont supply which you do need is the jet washers as the dirt on the headlights (especially in winter) bend the lights which make them then dazzle.

However, I seem to recall you did also complain about my factory fit Xenons dazzling you.......:P. I've had more problems so far this year with badly adjusted normal lights that I've got to the point I don't care now what they've got in there.

I retro fitted some on to my MK I Octy without too much difficulty and passed an MOT at a Skoda dealer with them fitted, but I had the hi/low beam variety.

I got mine from the states and they had the metal cap on them too.

was that from the kick up to the left?

Can't remember tbh. :o

It maybe getting boring this topic, but seeing as a new product has arrived which may well cut this dreaded glare, and lets face it there are probably more mis-aligned halogen units on cars than the occasional HID system, so its not just down to having this type of bulb. Also if these do actually work, then surely its a good thing for everyone, that if someone does decide to illegally use a set of these, then atleast the major problem in the first place is kind of solved. I wouldnt personally buy a set, im quite happy with my Philips Xtremes, but I just wondered if anyone has actually used a set of these, compared to the normal one without a shield.

Just get Osram nightbreaker 90% brighter or phillips xtreme power 80% brighter.

Indeed. I think I was just reading the 200th "What Tyres?" thread followed by "What's that vibraton when I accelerate?"
