Brake lights! i love this place!!!!

Featured Replies

Found out today none of my brake lights have been working! Checked bulb's, fuse's all ok, so log on to biskoda done a search and hay presto!

Brake light switch, the part no and a nice picture showing how to replace it! 10 mins later back from Gsf and i have brake lights again. :)

Cheers all!

Hmmm, I thought there was a dash warning light for this? On the dervs the glowplug light flashes when that switch packs up. Glad it's all sorted though.

Just looked in the manual, seems it only comes on if a bulb has blown/faulty.

Also, if you have a blown brakelight, cruise doesn't work :)

Which is a really useful diagnositic if you:-

A) Don't have cruise

B) Hardly ever make trips where you could use it even if you had it and would use it.

OK Ken, well in harsh reply terms I would say 'that's not my problem' :)

I was simply adding it to the post, not as a point of diagnostic analysis, but a potentially useful bit of information.

Steve

My Cruise has stopped working... better check the brake lights tonight.

Although I reckon it might be the stalk rather than the brake light switch, I use it so much I've probably knackered it :thumbdwn:

There are two seperate switches it the brake light switch itself.

One for the engine ECU (that would bring on the EML)

One for the lights.

Not on my TDi, had several blown bulbs, but never a light on the dash to indicate that one was out.

All right Steve; I was just saying that the cruise info isn't a useful diagnostic unless you get someone saying "my cruise control isn't working", and know that's a reason why.

Yup my cruise packed up a few weeks ago. Oddly after I disconnected the battery. So I presumed it was related to that, untill I was informed by a freindly cabby my brakes lights were not on. No Tools with me so I'm afraid I had to get the man in. Who is actually on this site somewhere as he too owns a Mk I Octy RS.

A much better diagnostic is too look behind one when staionary, see if people glow red...although I have a stupid wing so I can't actually see them.

Glad you got it sorted, it's a recurring problem thanks to cheap *** switches, shame it can't be bypassed so you can left foot brake etc ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Thought i'd add my 10p worth to thread to help future peeps.

After being stopped and informed by the local boys in blue about mine (BTW 10/10 for how they handled it:thumbup: makes a change) sorted mine at the weekend.

Not sure if it's the same with peeps without ESP but had my light had come on a few times in the last few weeks then come on all the time, thought i'd got a dodgy ABS wire or such but after £9 from Skoda and a new pedal switch (green)..all is now good:D
