54 vrs slipping clutch

Featured Replies

the wifes 54 fabia vrs with 34500m we've owned from one year old? the clutch has started slipping!1 is this normal for such low milage, remember this is a woman driver not boy racer.2 does anyone have an idea of price for new full clutch inc fitting,3recomend a localish garage in south yorks thanks:(

It's not always linked directly to mileage but the use of it. If your wife happens to rest her foot on the pedal while driving then that may cause premature wear.

They also have been known to struggle, especially if the driver changes up gear early and stomps max torque through it.

Your looking at around £500 for a standard clutch but in my opinion and im sure everybody on here would agree to go for a Sach performance clutch at £600/£700.

It can take twice as much force as the standard one and it will last you a hell of alot longer if the car is running as a standard one.

I'd agree..... my vRS did 80,000 miles of learner driving (and me caning it at meets) runnig approc 150bhp for most of that time (cheap resister mod) and my clutch still felt like new.....

If it is driven gently, it could be glazed, have you tried giving it a few 0-60 style standing starts, to give it some "bite", be a bit viscious, see if you cane remove the glaze (much like brakes) if it is dead, you'll not cause it any more damage, but others have cured clutch slip on the vRS with this method!

no me, mine got enough abuse every day... but never wore out ;)

I'm now on 83k with my standard clutch and it is still holding up well. I tried the above technique when my clutch starting slipping at around 64k (thanks to the members' advice on this forum). I pulled off sharply a few times from rest and the clutch stopped slipping. I think I've done that maybe once more over the last 20,000 miles, and as I say the clutch is still holding up well and doesn't slip. Give it a try, it could be that the friction plate is glazed and will respond well to the above technique. You may still get some more mileage out of it...
