Fabia SDI alternator - yay or nay on working on the SDI engine in an octavia mk1 SDI. Ta.

It does not specify what alternator for what engine, just their output and manufacturer, so as long as it's not less than the one on the Octavthan I would guess it would work and fit fine.

(also, I thought alternators were not manufacturer specific parts rather brought in and the brackets designed around them)

I thought so too - So even if the brackets are different the alternator could be mounted, in all likelihood, to the bracket the old knackered one on the octavia already uses.
