I think iv finaly found the fabia's replacement

Featured Replies

Oh the quick part sounds good

what do you think of it in comparison to the vrs ? im a vauxhall hater normaly lol

I wasn't expecting the Astra to be *that* much quicker than my Fabia, being "only" 20bhp in it and I guessed the Astra'd weigh in heavier.

But I think it's the way the car delivers the power more than anything. The Fabia tends to give you all the power in a lump, whereas the Astra kept pulling in a linear fashion.

Overtaking from about 40mph in 3rd was breathtaking. The salesman put it best at the time: "As you can see, overtaking is no problem in this car".

Don't expect fantastic economy, the trip computer had never been reset from almost new (Mileometer read 10,000... trip computer read 8,900) and it had only achieved 39mpg over that time!!!

I've driven other fast cars, Focus ST, a rally prepared Fiesta ST, a Clio 182 Cup (Modified to 200+ bhp) and the Astra was... different, in a good way.

OK, can I ask a slightly silly and very boring question. If I had one of these and wanted to insure it, could I just provide a licence plate in the usual way, or is it treated as modified and I'd have to go through all of the declaring of mods etc...........

Cheers.

That's a good question. I thought it was a sort of official 'one off' so could be insured 'as is'. But not sure if that's right. For insurance purposes, it might be an SRI (on which the 888 is based), with bits added on.

Steve

I asked the same question of the salesman when I drove it. Officially it's an actual Vauxhall model so you should just be able to give the license plate and the database will know what it is.

Interesting......... Thanks.

I rememeber 5th gear testing it against the astra VXR, it just lost out on the 0-60, but won on the mid range

The VXR won in a lap of the track as well iirc... and sounds much better. :D

Bet people say the same about Skodas ;)

They probably do, hence why I wouldnt spend 14k on one of those either

;) you maby dont have that money to spend ;)

I'm holding out for an Impreza diesel: 180bhp+, boxer engine, Japanese reliability and 4 wheel drive stability....

i dont like them at all! to say there are only 100 well there are loads round here in lincolnshire, where the 888s are made, and all the other astra's are commen as **** :(

Looks good on the outside but interior looks poor. If you can afford a car like that then i would get the 3 MPS aero (Which i ued to have) now get a 07 for 11-12k !!!! 256 BHPn as standard and if you want to feel pace well that has it in spades! 37MPG on a run as weel and 27MPF around town. Appreciate it is petrol but for the money it is a better choice IMO.

There's 2 of them up my way, white n a red one. Look nice but i'm not a vauxhall fan :)

The MPS is a lovely car inside and out, but you will be hammered by the new road tax next year, it's C02 is in the top bracket, so expect a bill of £400. Which is a hefty wad. Bit of a bummer as it is a really nice car.

It is hefty tax (Even more for my RX8!!!) but if you are forking over 10-15k for a sports motor you can probably afford it. If the MPG is similar to that Astra it is a no brainer, especially when it comes to what you get for your money with the MPS in terms of racing seats, bose sound system and it handles the power really well!

Plus a intake (£250), high flow cat (£300) and you are running at 280BHP ish!

Just get a regular 150 cdti and get it mapped yourself, a colleague has a vectra 1.9cdti 150 mapped by Celtic, running 208bhp now :D

Agreed !

Better yet I'd just mod your Fabia with a Hybrid turbo up to 250 / 260BHP with a LSD and kick the Astras Ar*e !

I hate Vauxhall had one once (Never again)

Nice but wouldnt spend 14k on a Vauxhall.

Don't let the badge put you off

Is the 888 just a regular 150cdti with bits bolted on ?

Yip just like the anniversary golf.....i had one and sold it on because it would have just been a fake if i had put the kit/interior on it

youve gota have the real deal

it would be cheaper to build a 888 replica from a cdti 150 because thats all they are a cdti 150 with a remap, brakes, wheels, exhaust and suspension, I think the recaro interior was an optional extra ???

Id say they will always hold there value well being a limited edition but there is an alternative to the 888 and thats the T9 which is basically exactly the same as the 888 there just built from base model cdti 150's, its got the remap, exhaust, brakes and 18" compomotive wheels !!!

There still pricey though :( but not as rare !

My mate had a 888 as a company car  and he said it would do 150 quite nicely lol

Im sure the sport button just has the 2 settings, standard map and remap ??

keep an eye on thurlby's website as they sometimes have them advertised or have a look on the astra owners website

sounds nice

yeah it was a silver one really nice it was aswell, I did concider a 888 before the 180 but they were just too damn expensive at the time !!

Im more than happy with the fabbi though :D

Nice - but so was the MK1 Furby - sort of part A3 -distinguished like tillsome prat fooked with it's looks.Looking at the corsett - perhaps time for VX to bring out a model on Furby lines , with a decent diesel engine with ooooooodles of power .

And --- oooh --just looked at the pic in the first post - ardo the drooles ,drip, droip - my first choice (except that mrs V said it had to be capable of transporting grandkids)

yeah they have droped quite a bit now.....let someone else do the whole "loose money" thing.

they are working on turbos/intercoolers to make them up to 240 + bhp :D

i can see this being as expensive as the fabia was
