Query re Octavia II RS safety features.

Featured Replies

The Octavia II RS TDI 170Hp CRD is about to be launched in Australia and I am thinking about buying one.

I have scoured the Australian and global Skoda web sites, downloaded and read all the brochures and searched the internet, but I cannot find any mention that the Octavia has the following safety features:

Anti-submarining seats

Emergency pre-tensioners

Force limiting seatbelts

I know that the Golf/Jetta has emergency pre-tensioners and force limiting seatbelts on the front seats, while the Passat has force limiting seatbelts on all outboard seats, but there is no mention that the Octavia also has them.

Can anyone enlighten me?

yes to the first 2 for sure, these are standard across the whole range. not sure what the third thing though,

Thanks. That's very good to know.

Force limiting seatbelts are development of the original locking inertia reel seat belt. Instead of locking solid, which causes the passenger to pull up hard in the event of an accident, they have a certain amount of slip. If the force on the belt exceeds a set point the belt actually slips a bit. Although that causes the passenger to move forward a little they are less likely to be injured by the impact of the seat belt itself on their upper torso.

Don't all cars equipped with frontal airbags have that nowadays? I thought we've gone beyond that, nowadays I'd be more curious which car has dual stage airbags and the like.

Sebulbus you may very well be right. It just seems odd that the other VAG web sites and brochures specifically mention these safety features but Skoda does not, which is why I'm double checking.

The EuroNCAP website lists the Octavia as having seatbelt pre-tensioners and 'load limiters' - so I think its safe to say that the car has what you want.
