wet feet

Featured Replies

hi all, got a prob with 52 plate octavia vrs water collecting in drivers side front and back foot wells . No idea how it gets there any ideas ? Also rear door wont open .

Water on the drivers side is likely to be coming in via the bonnet release cable I think. On the passenger side it is caused by a grommet up near to the pollen filter.

I would also check that the wheel arch liner drains are clear from under the scuttle pannel as a build up of water in there certainly won't help.

If the car has has after market speakers fitted then the door menbrains might have been cut, which can allow water into the car that way as well. The carpet/sound deadening material is thicker in the front, and the floorpan slopes towards the back, so you just have a fair amount of water in there for the front to be wet.

Have a search on here - rear passenger footwell dampness has been quite well covered in the past.

Mbames, can you help me accurately identify that grommet near the pollen filter? You may just have solved a frustrating problem on my Octavia.

Thanks.

Should be able to. It is located to the right of the pollen filter housing.

Close up where I had routed a cable through it (for my radar/laser detector):

Note the scuttle pannel is in two sections, and the "passenger" hand side actually fits under the "driver" side, but with a bit of care you can get just the passenger side off.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Matt

Matt, thanks for that speedy and informative reply.

I only wish my Skoda dealer was as on the ball. Or Skoda UK coming to that. The Skoda head office customer services department makes an Indian call-centre seem like Nirvana.

Join the club, my local dealer (Westover) is useless. I had the soggy passenger side rear footwell issue as the grommet has popped out after I routed that cable though. Although there has also been the suggest that the air con drain pipe can cause a leak as well - just to cover all bases.

Thanks for the info will try out ideas

Do you have a sunroof?? If so, you could check to make sure the drainage pipe on that side is attached up in the roof lining.

That was the cause of my little swimming pool.

Its not as nasty a job as it sounds because you don't have to take the roof lining completely down. Just get someone with small hands to help you :-)

You could also try peeling back the carpet and dumping water over different parts of the car while someone inside watches to see where it's coming from. It was pretty obvious where it was coming from once I had done that.

Hope you get it sorted fella... All the best!
