Tyre Pressures

Featured Replies

Very recently had a complete new set of tyres fitted, 225/45/17's and forgetting to ask about the rec'd pressure I thought I'd better check how they'd been inflated. As follows: both front 32psi. ok, o/s rear 32 ok. n/s rear 69psi  Having very limited knowledge about tyres, how bad was that?

Most tyres state not to exceed a set pressure (42PSI on mine). 69 PSI will have been used to seat the tyre bead on the rim and is quite normal. However It should then have been lowered to the required pressure. Running at this pressure is not good and may have caused unseen damage to the tyre carcass.

Had been like this for about five weeks and I'm glad I checked them. Apart from the few pics I've taken, showing the pressure guage reading, suppose it would be very difficult to make any complaint if I experience any problems with that tyre.

My concern would be a possible blow out at high speed (worst case scenerio) if the tyre structure has been weekend. Max pressure warnings are there for safety not to make the tyre wall look good. I'd complain and suggest the tyre is replaced at their exspense.

When I got tyres fitted to my 18 inch OZ's last, I commented on the pressure required to seat the tyre beed (over 70PSI). They said this was normal and sometimes upto 100PSI is required but they did say to reduce this pressure ASAP and certainly not to drive on it.
