clutch pedal stuck down.

Featured Replies

Does anyone find their clutch pedal stuck down after your car has been sat for about a week.

Twice now its happened to me, after leaving it in the garage for about 5 days when its been cold, i get in, pull car out of garage, then it nearly stalls because the clutch pedal is still stuck down. I had to pull it up with my foot then all is fine.

Not sure if a clutch uses any fluid but it may have frozen or a return spring got stuck.

Sounds like it could be a faulty clutch master cylinder.

Yes, its a common problem with the cold and as in the previous post the cause is a faulty clutch master cylinder.

First really cold spell I experienced after buying mine 2 years ago this happened to me and like you I pulled it up with my foot and it was fine for rest of day. Did it a further 2 or 3 times that week always first thing in the morning after a freezing night. Never had it happen since  As stated though it could mean master cylinder problems.

Happened to me after the clutch was changed on my car - faulty master cylinder.

Sounds expensive, anyone know a rough price of these?

I may leave it a little longer see how often it happens, car is fine apart from then.

this is prob gonna happen to me lol but

ive had my car parked out in the cold since new and its never happened to me once and its nearly 4 year old.

Dunno on price - mine was done under warranty after the clutch was changed.

Car is booked in on friday for MOT and exhaust doing, do you think it will be best to get it changed then before it gets worse? and will i be able to do it myself with basic tools?

thanks.

The part is around the £50 mark and is fairly easy to replace. You do need a pressure bleeding kit, but these are cheap these days and are good for brakes too.

My Octavia had this problem in 2004. The Invoice shows

Master Cylinder £32.25

Brake Fluid £ 2.15

Labour £36.00

I guess it would now cost more, VAT wasn't shown presumably because it was done under warranty.
