MSD Ignition System

Featured Replies

i ran a complete test of my ignition system after my problems with the rain, and found out some interesting things, though my coils was cracked it was not the one at fault, the HT wire leadinf from the coil to the distributor was the culprit and since the cables where fairly new (2 month old) i started reading on the hole ignition system..

i found out about MSD Ignition system, the cables are of good quality (not prone to break or loose conductivity) but they also have a coil with 40,000v on the main, also the have a ignition that delivers a longer spark or multiple sparks per detonation stroke. so two questions arised

1. What is the voltage on standart coils, the run of the mil ones

2. how god of a performance increase is a MSD system over a stock one

reasons why i ask is because they are the same price or cheaper than the component on my Felicia 2000 GLX

1) About 20kV from a stock coil.

2) Nothing at all on a dyno; the advantage of the hotter spark is that it stops the car misfiring as a rule.

If it's not costing you more, I'd go for it.
