help what gearbox oil

Featured Replies

hi just need a bit of help got a octy vrs 110k 51 plate and going to change gearbox oil but not sure what to get any help please thanks:)

Its been covered a fair bit recently. Gedt yourself over to your local VAG dealer or TPS centre and get some genuine or Quantum oil, it works the best. Also get the seal for one of the selector pins as the drain plug only only drains the diff.

There's nothing wrong with VAG gearbox oil. It's about £5/litre and you need 2 litres.

Part No is G 052 512 A2.

Make sure you can get the filler plug out before you start draining. The filler plug may need some PlusGas to loosen it up.

Go with VAG as above, or Castrol SMX-S or Redline MT90, which are high quality but more expensive.

I used Castrol TAF-X and it is a big improvement, my oil was changed last week and had done 103k. T45 torx bit required for the selector pin and 17mm hex for the drain and filler plugs. PlusGas (or similar) may be required for the fill plug, as stated take this out first cause if you cant get it off you will be buggered if you have already drained the oil, the filler was the pig on my car was well seized but with a long torque wrench and PlusGas it will go.

Oh and I used copper slip on the plug threads before I refitted them so next time will be easier hopefully

I may have offered this before I cant remember but if anyone local wants their gearbox oil changed on their Octy is gladly do the labour free of charge if you either pay for or provide the oil and we can do a little how to for the technical section, it doesnt take long.

shame I am not a bit closer :-(
