Best way to get tree sap off the car

Featured Replies

I've not had time to polish it yet but we've just got back from Centreparcs and the car spent the week in a woodland car park and so needless to say is covered in sticky tree sap.

Is there a good way to get rid of the awful stuff?

Steve

zymol does it for me, hose it down first then use zymol as directed, usually one wash does the trick.

Steve, Telfords told me to soak a cloth in boiling water with washing up liquid and set it on the sap. It melts it off after a couple of minutes. My car was covered in it and this worked a treat. Bit of polish after does the trick.

Won't be at the Sportsman again this month, WORK, so i'll be back up in Soetember hopefully.

Cheers

I thought washing up liquid was a no-no on cars as it removed the wax/polish from the bodywork leaving it open to rust.

It is a general rule.

But as long as you know that you ARE stripping the wax, and you will have to re-apply it, then it shouldn't be a problem to do it once in a while.

We use soaps that are far, far stronger than washing up liquid, but thats because we want to strip the wax off. Sometimes we need to do this because we are applying a sealant, or we need to do some paintwork, and sometimes i just does the car good to start from scratch with new wax.

The difference is that our soaps contain no salt. But compared to the amount of salt on the roads it's not really a huge problem to use washing up liquid on rare occasions. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. But if it really bothers you, there are plenty of products on the market, it's just that you will have to pay for a product you won't use very often.

quick clay bar does i for me as i stay right across from several trees and a railway

I would concur with Grizzle. I did mine yesterday with a claybar.

It's so tempting to park in the shade at this time of year isn't it? It can be a bad move.

Only one thing to try. Meguiars Quik Clay, it is unbelievable!!

Made my paint like glass!! :D:thumbup::)

Used to have to park my car in a tra line avenue. Have to say a normal car wash removed the sap no problem, so I am not sure what the fuss is about.

Deffo Meguirs Quick Clay Bar. Amazing stuff! Takes a while to do a whole car, but the results are well worth it!

What does one of these clay bars look like? I've looked both in Halfords and my local accessory shop and no sign of anything like it ...

The Meguiars kit is called Quick Clay Detailer and is in a box with a spray bottle. Not many places seem to sell it though. Try here to locate your nearest stockist. Is definitely well worth it. ;)
