Hands free installation question

Featured Replies

Hi all, Just bought myself a Skoda. Can't believe I've done that!

99 Felica estate- 1.6 petrol. And what a super little car.

Trying to fit a Nokia Cark. Car is fitted with a Grundig MS 201.

Do I have to haul everything out and splice into cables at back of radio carrier? Or is there a simpler answer?

Hi and welcome. I don't know anything about the nokia cark. What wires are you looking for? If you just need to get to the wires at the back of the stereo the easiest way is probably just to remove the stereo. You could feed the wires out the back and around the back of the centre console depending on where you want them to go. If you want it mounted on the main dash you could push the wires out the way between the centre console and bottom of the dash where the stereo is.

You will need to make sure the radio has a mute wire, permanent live and switched live.

By far the easiest way it to use an ISO to ISO adapter and splice into/solder onto that and then seal it, however that will set you back at least £5.

Does said radio have a phone audio input as if not you will also need to install the external speaker rather than have the audio coming through the radio speakers.

Hi and thanks for reply. I've pulled out the radio only to discover that the wiring is to the carrier. rather than direct to it.

I suppose all I am looking to ID is the permenant feed, the switched feed, and the mute wire [if there is one]

I should also note that most VAG cars (not sure if this applies to your one) have the permy and switched live backwards in terms of their position in the ISO loom.

Just check this with a meter or look at the wiring diagram and solder the correct lead to the correct wire on the ISO adapter. Then you can then just pull out the old radio cage, pop the adapter in and put the radio back using this as a pass through.

The speaker is not an issue. The Nokia Cark comes wit its own.

The other point you raise is the crunch- does the MS201 have a mute wire?

This ISO to ISO adaptor- is it simply an inline- with extra wires to hook on to?

An iso adapter is a full set of 8 or 16 wires (8 power etc + 8 speakers) with a female connector at one end and a male connector at the other. You then just splice into the wires in this rather than touching the cars original wiring saving yourself any issues.

That should help you locate your mute wire.

It will be in the 8 pin connectors detailed half way down.

On the felicia the switched live and permanent live are usually both permanently live I believe. There is a switched live wire at the back of the ignition switch that leads to the fusebox though which can be used.

I thought they were just wired backwards as certainly that was the trick with MK II and MK III golf.

nah, this isn't a switched live on the radio loom on a felicia
