Actually we got within £500 of a deal. Trouble was I wanted to pay about £1,000 less than their SIV (what the car stands at) and I think it is a bit of a sticking point.

Amanda just ring round every Fiat dealer in Yorkshire as I got a quote on a Octavia VRS down £2500 by just ringing round its obviously the dealer who isnt meeting their sales targets that will be flogging at the cheapest price but you can take it to any fiat garage for service after that etc.

That’s the problem, he can’t go any lower:(, I have seen his SIV. As mentioned he isn’t even a FIAT dealer, hence he has priced the car to shift it. FIAT can’t get anywhere near the same deal. Personally I would say always go to see a dealer face to face to get the best deal (I say this as an ex-car saleswoman) be polite, friendly and firm. I can easily get £3K+ off a new car, but you can’t get that kind of price drop on a used car in this class, it would be financial suicide for the dealer and in this case £2.5K would mean he sold the car for a £1,500 loss!
