Servicing an Octavia vRS....Oil question

Featured Replies

Howdy y'all!

Please excuse the lack of knowledge in advance.

I have a 02 vRS which has just had it's 40k service. I have always left it to the dealer where I bought it from new (its been back a few times for water pump, etc. and they have always taken good care of me) to take care of the servicing. I noticed that on the last invoice that they used semi-synthetic oil..... is this a problem? Should I bring it back and get them to put fully synthetic oil in instead? Or does it really matter? I service it every 10k (when the display tells me to).

Oh yeah..... the seats. Can anyone tell me the best way to get the seats cleaned? They arent too bad considering the milage, but the front seats have gotten slightly dull. I tried using Simoniz "dri-clean" foam and a damp sponge, but with sod all success.

Cheers!

P.

Hi Padraig, Paul here. If you check the service book inside the front page there should be a symbol regarding the oil and service spec. The oil has to confirm to VW 503 00 for mine which is a fully synthetic oil. I would say yours is the same.

.Give me a call on Saturday afternoon and I can chat to you more .Regards

Paul.

If you on a fixed service scheme which is sounds like you are a good quality semi synthetic is just fine.

The fully synthetic is for the variable servicing as the oil needs to be a greater quality to last longer.

The handbook specifies a spec VW 500 00 or 502 00 multigrade high lubricity oil, or a spec VW 501 01 or spec ACEA A2 or A3 - 96 multigrade oil for the petrol-engined Octavia on fixed service intervals. Given that choise, I would opt for a multigrade high lubricity oil in preference to a multigrade oil. As to suitable brand names and oils, the choice should be pretty wide.
