Turbo lag on (std) 2.0TFSI

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Just recently, i've noticed my vRS (petrol) has developed noticable turbo lag. Around 2000-2500rpm it's like i'm driving my Fabia vRS again. (sudden change in acceleration as the torque comes in)

Am i being overly paranoid that this characteristic has appeared? I have been driving very grandad-like lately, and my only explanation i can come up with is that the ECU has adapted to the driving style and isn't blending the turbo in as well due to me not giving it 'the beans' as often as it wants...

The engine is 26k miles 'old' and 2nd service will probably be due sometime soon.

Once 'on-turbo' it's as perky as ever, and i have no complaints what-so-ever

Any ideas/comments?

Ta,

MPM :D

Sounds very much like you have split your Diverter Valve imo.

Failing that it could be the PCV has failed (but much more unlikely).

First item here explains the symptoms quite well

Gulp.

Sounds like another un-service-related trip to Skoda could be due :(

MPM :)

Another thing you could try is press the throttle hard to the floor and then turn on the ignition whilst keeping the pedal pressed for 10 seconds. Release the pedal and turn off the ignition before starting the car.

What does that do Stu?

I'm told it is useful for clearing throttle adaptions following lots of town driving.

So who's gonna be brave enough to try this first :D;)

I love the sound of valve bounce in the morning

i think that its turn the igition on, not starting the car.

hope so anyway

I already did ;)

I already did ;)

And?

Well that would be telling, I'd hate to influence other people's research.

It probably didnt **** the engine though right

I did it (without the engine running ) and i'm still waiting for a non trafficy bit of road to see if it's really made a difference.

It certainly seemed less 'spikey' this morning, however, i don't know how much of that is the placebo affect :o

Exactly, read the post and you'll see no where did I mention burying the throttle and then starting the engine.

Would make for a 'quick' getaway :P

Ok, by doing what exactly ??

There are lots of little 'funnies' that can be carried out with the car which I am sure we don't know about. One that springs to mind is check where, with the engine running, you place your foot on the brake and bury the throttle. This will then run a preset sequence of varying idle speeds which, when connected to the diagnostics can be checked.

So who knows, it may just work.

Well, after going into limp mode it gave me a good excuse to goto the dealer and get this looked into.

Turns out it was a duff Airflow sensor into the turbo. It was NOT reporting a fault code, but was reporting incorrect values. (sounds like it was temp related values - i didn't get the full details)

The car was taken out and test driven to confirm the (extreme to be honest) lag. Then they unplugged the sensor and normal service was resumed. The sensor has been replaced and 'normal' performance has been restored :D :D :D

So, a massive thanks  to Savilles garage in Mustow Green, Kidderminster. They have been more than patient with me and have been fantastic in their service on all fronts :)
