Claims for windscreen repairs have to be declared? Adds to insurance cost?

Featured Replies

I understand windscreen claims do not affect no claims, but I have read a good few suggestions on the net that such claims have to be declared to an insurer, and that this can count against you leading to increased insurance cost.

Just trying to decide whether the tiny chip in my screen that's been there nearly 2 years is worth getting sorted.

Yes, all claims have to be declared and most insurers have a specific "glass claim" category.

I think there needs to be more clarity from insurers regarding this, it seems that many people are unaware/unsure about this.

Yeah, I'd rather leave it if all it's going to do is add some extra cost to my next insurance premium as I doubt another two years would do much harm.

Just keep a look out for those chip repair vans you see parked up in B&Q, Tesco etc car parks at weekends.

They take your insurance details and claim off them anyway or charge you £30 to have a go at your own cost.

If it's going to affect the insurance I'd rather pay the £30 myself.
