Guys can you put 195/45/16's on the the fabia vrs on the front, only thats what some garage just told me or does it have to be the 205/45/16

cheers

They'll go on, no problem, but i suspect your speedo will no longer be accurate.

215/40/16 is always stated as being a good option as they are usually cheaper and the rolling circ is still pretty good, will be trying these myself next year. Would say its better to go slightly wider than narrower, plus in reality you won't be going as fast as you were before for the same revs.

You cant put wider tyres on the same rim can you? unless im missing something.

A tyre place offered me a set of 165/80 r13 tyres but that would have thrown my speedo out as my tyres are 165/70 r13

Good luck getting the 130 horses down on to the road with even less tyre than standard.

Is he not just changing the width? 215/45 16s have the same rolling radius as 205/45 16 as far as I understand, but are just wider?

The OP was going to use 195x45, it was someone else that mentioned 215.

Either way, using that tyre calc i posted, they will both be out.

 and if odometer is not recording the correct mileage, the service interval calculations and fuel consumption computer will also be out (assuming they have a degree of accuracy now).

if 1 sidewall is 45% of 215mm and other 45% of 205mm one tyre must be bigger than other...

He wants to change to 195 !! Not 215.

For the sizes mentioned by the OP (with thanks to Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible Page 2 of 2)

My understanding is its good practice to stay within 3% of original, so not too bad from a Rolling Radius point of view, but as has been said its gives less contact area to get the power down.

Would also need to check the Fabia standard wheel width is suitable.

The alloy itself will be a little more exposed with the narrower width - so more susceptible to kerbing if you're not careful.

That's a good link - cheers andy!
